Yea there are a ton of options with building a custom bedcage, checkout Ronnie's toolbox fits perfect inside the bedcage rails

I saw his in person. I like the simplicity of the Engage bed-saver.

Thank you. Ya There are no extra parts to hold the hange to the frame. I don't want them coming off. I got the idea from the DMZ hangers

Getting nice suspension for the taco was a terrible idea. Now me and my dad are going to invest in a cheapish race truck. After limited research i'm led to believe that a ranger would be the cheapest bang for the buck as far as a purpose build rig goes. Would like some convincing that a taco would be a cheaper/easier option. Overall budget atm is sitting at about 20,000 with all the work done by us. So taco or ranger?

Definatly a first gen tacoma or even a pre tacoma like a Toyota pick up would be good, but if you do end up getting a ranger make sure it is one that had the 4.0 engine stock cause all the rangers with the 3.0 motor are junk

Rangers arnt cheaper anymore. They use to be back in the day when u could get f100 beams out of a junk yard and throw some coilovers on it and go fuck with it. now its not the case, a legit equal length beam set up with cross over steering and coilovers and bumps will easily run you past 4k. A shop could make a pre-tacoma or gen 1 tacoma race kit for that price easily... But the suspension design and steering system of the old 4x pick ups is un beatable.

x2 on toyota pickup or gen 1 tacoma. easily done for under 20k

Yeah from what ive seen its gonna be 8-10k in suspension components then theres the cage that needs to be built. Not quite sure what i want to do with the rear end yet but that will come in time. Honestly its looking like it will be whatever i can find a good carcass of to start with.
