I have had a set for about 8 years. They don't fold like the new ones but they are great for a single yak. I don't use them on my Tacoma but they fit great on Ford Explorer and Toyota Sequoya roof rack rails.

Finally got my custom pads for the TracRac done and got a day to take the yak out for a spin, so I snapped a few pics.

I started with a stainless M10 bolt, washers, nut and eye nut for each crossbar.

Then I cut foam pipe insulation to fit, including cutouts for the eye nut and the flanges on the uprights:

Then I had the covers made at a local canvas shop with the appropriate cutouts, and velcro closure along the bottom seams:

The canvas was pretty pricey, but the boats are well protected, easy to secure, and the finished product looks pretty nice, so I'm chuffed.

Very nice! I like the home made eye bolts. Did you trac rack come with the center cut out like that? I got the universal so mine was solid and I put one in myself. I see your running your straps to the cleat to secure them. I have been looking at these for the sides of the vertical bars so I can keep the straps from using my bed d-rings. The cheaper tracrac version at Lowes was $299.00. You got the G2 I think right?

Macs makes GREAT quality hardware and that kit above is cheap at only $29. http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/product/175/VersaTieTrackKits

If you have extra bed cleats they fit nicely in the top rails

We went geocaching and kayaking up in Erie, PA on Presque Isle at the Lagoon.

Peaceful paddle, low water but plenty to paddle in. We ended up paddling thru a field of lilly pads - had us laughing the entire time!!

The G2 comes with that cutout in the channel. Yesterday was the first time trying using the cleats and they work fine. In the past (and on my Thule bars on my old Durango) I just did a loop under the bar, inboard of the upright to prevent the boat from scooting toward the end of the bar. The cleats are nice as they are a bit lower so easier to manage without reaching overhead.

trdNick: I never thought about those stock tie downs or I might have used them.... duh. I do like the eye nut as it is low profile with the pads in place and not likely to snag a boat if I'm struggling to get it up there. Either one is a great solution.

Hey guys, need a little help. Looking at picking up a kayak for just cruising around the local rivers and such. Found a guy selling a Perception Prodigy 10.0 for $280, just trying to see if it would be a good starting boat and is that a decent deal?

Do you have access to SIT IN IT before you buy it?

Sounds like a good basic kayak. I would cruise the Internet looking for customer reviews.

I would definitely sit in it before buying it.
When my husband and I bought ours, they said I would've happier with a smaller (width) kayak. But once I say in it, there wasn't enough leg room and I felt extremely cramped. I bought the bigger one with no regrets.

Sounds like a good deal assuming its on good shape. No cracks, holes, gouges...

It will be scratched up on the bottom. They get scratched up easily with minimal usage.

    Good luck!

Well, went and checked it out, ended up giving him $240 for it, it fits awesome, vest even fits. Has a few very light scratches on the bottom, other then that it looks brand new, still need a paddle but I figured $240 wasnt a bad deal, now I wanna get it out before its too cold.. :D

Im gonna throw together a rack for it, my gf is gonna look into getting one now so should be a good next season on the water.

Nice buy on the Prodigy. My wife bought one new earlier this summer for almost twice what you paid for that one.

haha thanks man, its actualy white, with a light shade of blue on the one end.

Thanks, I had to drive an hour to get it, seemed like a good deal, now I need to find a decent 230cm paddle and a skirt for it. Any good place to look for that kinda thing?

I got mine at REI, don't know if you have one near you. You might try Bass Pro Shops or Craigslist for a used one.
