Help identifying HID colour temp

I recently installed HID bi-xenon headlights and fogs (I well aware of the opinions on using HID's in reflectors etc, so no need to comment there) and they are slightly different in colour.

Can someone/anyone please comment on what colour temp they think they are. I ordered 4300k for both. I'm curious if the headlights are lower or the fogs are higher than 4300k. I can't decide which one I like better, but either way, I want to advise the seller that one is wrong and replace whichever I like less.

 

Fogs look closer to 5000K or 6000K to me. i've got a 5000K kit for my sport bike and your fogs look very very similar. I've never seen a 4300K kit in person other than OEM vehicles so I can't comment on the headlights being lower than 4300K. FYI, some companies do make a 4200K IIRC, maybe you got those instead?

 

What was the white balance set to on the camera? The fogs look semi-blue, which could be 5k-6kish if your camera white balance was daylight. The mains look greenish/yellowish which would be lower. As a reference here's what 4300 mains and 3k fogs looks like with daylight white balance on camera:

 

It was taken with a cell phone, so not sure about the white balance.

I'll try another tonight when it's dark and they're warmed up.

 

This seems to be a better pic. Let me know what you think. I'm pretty certain that the headlights are 4300k, but what does everyone think about the fogs? 5000k or 6000k? If it matters, both are 35W.

 

Judging from this pic - your fogs are definitely 6k

 

I'd deff agree with that. Those fogs are so much more blue.

 

Fogs are 5-6000k. Headlights aren't a 4300k, that would be pure white. They look to be 4000k - which gives it that subtle hint of yellow.

 

4300k is NOT a pure white
43k is almost a halogen color
5000k is pure white

Same as everyone else, Heads are 4300, fogs are 5-6000. Lower the kelvin on the fogs to either 4300 for most light (lumen) output or else to 3000 for adverse weather (like fog )

 

HID drop in kit... those 'fog lights' aren't going to be any good in fog any longer, regardless of bulb color.

 

I have just the cure. I'll sell you my blazer retro fog projectors from TRS if you want OP I've switched over to my 93 for the project and there's no place for them. . .

 

Excellent choice! They're the best fog lights I've ever had (road legal fog lights that is, off road lights are a different animal).

So I ordered 5000k headlights and they ended up matching the fogs exactly. The fogs, however are labelled "4300k". At first I assumed it was mislabeled so I ordered another set of "4300k". I then installed the original 4300k headlights and the new "4300k" fogs and it ended up looking exactly the same as the first (matching the 5000k headlights).

Has anyone ever encountered this? I don't necessarily hate 5000k in both but think I would really prefer if both were 4300k.

PS: the pics at the top of this thread were taken with a cellphone. The headlights definitely look like 4300k and the fogs 5000k.
