I can understand you being upset in regards to wait time, which i as i have explained previous can happen, especially on a saturday which happens to be any dealerships busiest day of the week.

Now what i dont understand is your concern with the parts. As you stated, the original failed part was replaced with an updated part. What toyota had to do was narrow down which parts were bad and what production dates they had to replace. The way i read what they are saying, we are looking for a number 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 when we do the inspection, i am assuming that means 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 production date wise. After '08 anything replaced was replaced with a corrected part, thus why we are inspecting them to see production date #'s.

Hopefully this helps to clarify at least a little.

I am not upset about wait time. I am upset about going back to the future approach.

2008 is when my truck was built. 3 years later important safety component fails and is replaced with OEM replacement part. 6 months thereafter toyota issues a recall and TSB for clock spiral assembly saying that they can not at the time remedy the situation. 6 months afterwards they send out letters to truck owners saying that they have invented a safe replacement part that was otherwise unavailable just 6 months prior to that. Somehow same exact replacement part that was developed in 2012 and found to work as a remedy went back in time to september of 2011 and mysteriously found to have been the right part all along. I am completely baffled by how my 12 month old replacement part is identical to 1 month old replacement part that was developed in middle of 2012.

As for waiting... I sat outside in the shade on a beautiful day and was playing games on my ipad... waiting time is least of my issues mate. I am just completely puzzled by this whole thing. I was under assumption that OEM replacement part had to have been replaced again...

    Yuri... take a chill pill.

At the time the first letter came out, Toyota likely didn't know what parts were affected.
They suspected, but maybe didn't know.
They needed to go through their production records and compare service records with production dates and failure dates. Your 2011 repair was probably in that data set.

We're talking about hundreds of thousands of vehicles... possibly over a million that needed to be reviewed.

The next step would likely be to take the suspect parts (which could include your 2011 replacement) and stick them on a robot that will simulate many years of turning and tilting of the wheel.

In the end, only parts R84 through R88 need to be replaced, but it just as easily could have been R86 through R15 and the recall could have been extended to include 2011 and early 2012 production.

Recalls are audited and controlled by the Fed. That's why we see so many TSBs... manufacturers want to nip problems in the bud before they elevate to the level of needing a recall.
In many aspects, Toyota's hands are tied with respect to how the recalls are handled and what the public is told to do.

You could have avoided the whole return trip if you had PM'd Tech31 with your part number, as he indicated when the inspection letter hit the dealerships that he'd be willing to check our numbers for us.

It's to be expected, but don't worry, I'm a professional! it's kinda a test to see how many revolutions of the steering wheel before, wait, I've said too much.

Well, I'm relieved. I was one of those guys who paid to have the spiral cable replaced on my 2007 before the recall came out. Just got my second recall letter letter a couple of weeks ago. Sent in my repair bill from dealer and proof of ownership. Just got my check today from Toyota for $410. At least they made good on this part of the recall letter. Hope everyone else has just as good of luck!!

Yeah, got a second letter too saying parts was a plenty now but light isn't on and I am leaving well enough alone. If the light comes on then I'll take it in but not before. Would much rather have them hand me the part vs. any uncaring underpaid rookie they assign to this task hacking on my truck. Had too much of that shit with the 05 when they were chasing all the seal leaks and not getting my money due to the drivetrain warranty....loose/missing bolts, loose harmonic balancer, broken wiring harness clips and brackets, broken tabs on intake for vacuum hose routing, time wasted there getting them to try and fix what they left undone, time wasted trying to fix again what was still problem, trying to keep them from stealing my original nice thick oem all weather mats, trying to keep them from chopping my gas pedal from that idiot TSB....the list goes on and on. No fuckin thanks.

There's no way doing this recall will change the way your steering feels.

I know, it's all in the perception. I have had many customers tell me how much better their vehicles run after doing no more than an oil change, I just thought his statement was funny and that he might be joking.

I got my second letter and have it scheduled for replacement next week.
We will see how it goes as my 4x4 just quit so I am going to have them look at that as well. It seems like this truck has been nothing but problems :(
