    ...too much shit to list.
I've never seen a replacement tank.
Best bet is to ditch the factory spare setup and crossmember and run a fuel cell or auxiliary tank.

OK, I would replace my fuel tank with a nuclear reactor and my engine with a electric motor made with super conductive wire.

    I was serious.

I'm no tree hugger, but would love a Tacome that ran on batts alone...bring it home and plugit in to a charger like my DeWalt tools. I don't like stopping at gas stations.

So... why not get a large capacity tank at home and refuel at home if it's just the stop at the gas station you don't like?

I'll keep my gas engine, better range and I'll take 5 minute refueling stops of 12 hours of charging any day...

Why would a larger capacity fuel tank mess with the smog system?

Last thing I want/need is a several hundred gallon fuel tank on my property. btw, try to get that permitted. LOL

I have no problem with plugging in my truck at the end of the day and have her ready for use the next. I'd also like to cary a spare battery in case the charged one runs out on me...just like my DeWalt tool batteries.

I'd imagine permitting could be a challenge in some areas... I'm from a rural area though and lots of people had 500 or 1,000 gallon fuel tanks in their back yards or barns.

I guess if they could make the batteries small enough (and affordable enough) and get enough range it'd be worth it for some people. The recharge time is the biggest deterrent for me though. I want to be able to take my truck on a road trip and not worry about having to plan my mileage around wasting several hours charging.

Something particularly wrong with plastic 5-gal gas cans?

I put one in my Derpamax... they aren't legal for CA gassers and I read that the increased tank volume fucked with the evap.
Doesn't make sense unless it doesn't become an issue until the tank is below "normal empty"... or maybe there were a bunch of fucked up installations.

Ya... have you seen the EPA spouts that were cloned from the Derpifornia spouts?

Supposed to prevent spills and capture vapor.
    Nope.

They guarantee that 2 gallons goes in the truck and 3 gallons go in your boot.

How about an auxiliary tank, that you could switch on and fill the primary?

Federally, it can't be gravity-fed, so you can't put a tank in the bed and have it flow or siphon into the main tank, but you can pump from one to another.

Just have to be careful with the evap system. The whole system needs to be sealed, but you also have to have an automatic shutoff so the pump stops before you fill up the neck and flood the evap canister.

This guy had one made, with good results. So, it's possible. Cost some good coin, though.
