My dealership is trying to tell me that the tsb springs are already on my truck and I know that I have a two leaf pack and an overload. Ima have them cross reference part numbers. See if I can get this straight.

Just a few expensive & DIY things...

I printed out all 18 pages and brought it in with me.
Make sure you check the old and new part numbers for the replacement spring.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
Just checking to see if there are any updates to the TSB list on the first page? Haven't seen anything on there change in quite a while.
(I don't want to be digging through all 700 posts to find the occasional updated TSB!)

Anyone know of the rear suspension TSB applies to Canadian Trucks? Will Toyota honour the TSB??

    Hi all,
I just called Toyota in Albuquerque to buy the leaf pack for my 06 Tacoma 4X4 Double Cab sport long bed(was gonna have a friend install it). He asked for my VIN to make sure it hasnt been done yet. After a few minutes he comes back and tells me that my truck does not fall under the TSB requirements. Does anyone else have the same model and year truck that has been able to confirm that the leaf spring update is not needed?
The reason I ask is because I just bought a travel trailer and I wanted to get the leaf spring situation under control before I start hauling it around everywhere. Just want to keep my family and others on the road safe.

    Thanks,
    B

You can only get the TSB done under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty , maybe that's why he said you don't qualify

I would not purchase Toyota springs , there are tons of better aftermarket products especially if you intend to tow a lot .

    Thanks OZ!
I actually told the parts guy that I would buy the springs and have a friend install them and he insisted that I don't need them. I thought the TSB included all 2006 tacomas, but maybe I'm wrong?

I appreciate your help, would you mind pointing me in the right direction?

    Thanks,
    B

Will a dealership fix the TSB's before the warranty expires?

Anyone get leaf spring tsb done just for the sake of having it done? I don't haul much but did notice when I was hauling some firewood which was nowhere near capacity, the rear sagged quite a bit. But I mainly want it done because I know about it and want everything that's coming to me. Got appt. Monday for dealership to look at it. Don't know if I'll press the issue if they say I don't need it.

I pretty much got it done because I knew about it. Gave the dealer an excuse about hauling and the truck bottoming out on bump stops and that's all it took. I have a good dealer with a good service department, so YMMV.

It's definitely worth a shot. Helps if you bring in a copy of the TSB.

I just bought a 2012 on model year end clearance. I need to check and see if I've got 4 leafs in the rear. Mine is a 2.7, I guess its for all pre-runners and 4x4 regardless of engine...?

I just got it done on a 2012. It was a headache, but worth it. My truck no longer sags with a load of fire wood. From what I was told, vehicles with tow package come with 4 leaf. Otherwise you get 3 leaf. There making it an option to eliminate the tsb. They tried telling me it was my fault for not taking the tow package option. The only way I got it was because there is no tow package option with four cylinder vehicles. That was from the toyota rep(not dealer) who inspected my vehicle. He really didn't want to give me the 4 leaf. He was kinda pissed when he found out there was no tow package available for the 4 cylinder. I'm not even sure that it want bs about the tow package coming with the 4 leaf as an option, so he could deny me. I think it's bs wether you have the tow package or not. there should be a tsb for people that load there taco.

    Yeah.
I have a 2012 DCSB TRD Off Road with tow package and have 3 leafs. I'm not sure if the tow package statement applies to non-OR packages only, but I think that statement from the rep is BS.

But, glad to hear people getting it done on 2012's in case I decide to do it again on this truck. So far I have not seen the need, and I have another 2.5 years or 20K miles to decide.

Toyota should sell new trucks with a leaf pack that safely hauls the stated capacity (not on the bump stops). If they want to tweak from there for the various models, that's fine, but carrying the stated load safely is the minimum spec. Assuming that nobody actually hauls stuff in their truck is silly, arguing with a customer is silly, and having reps feed people BS is silly. Cheaper in the long run to solve the problem up front.

Will toy replace the leafs on trucks that are out of the 3 year 60,00o warranty?

Thanks TenBeers, I figured the rep was giving me BS. He was a real ballbreaker. I think he denied me, when I first went for the Tsb saying it wasn't covered on 2012 models, and got pissed I went over his head. I contacted toyota directly through email and stated it wasn't a safe Ride, when load was over 300 lbs in the back. My truck was bouncing way too much at highway speeds. Stupid tech tried telling me, that meant the suspension was working properly. Told him a couple of bounces are ok, but this is ridiculous. Fought with him back and forth for like 2 hours. Real pain in the ass. Was it worth it? Not sure, ill see how long the springs last. So far truck handles good, with normal bouncing when hauling. If people run into problems like I did, don't take any bs. Forget the 800 number, Email the corporates and state you have safety concerns. You'll get fast response;0) Also make sure you load the truck when getting it inspected. I put 800lbs. of sand bags in the back. That simulated a load of firewood for me.

Well I won't be hauling any crazy amounts in my truck. I basically use it for doing misc. projects around my house but I don't haul firewood or landscaping stones or anything. My dad has got work F250's for that lol. If I haul any brush or anything it'll be on a trailer. So if we don't NEED the extra support for the bed I guess it shouldn't matter... if 3 leafs are working just fine

    Yeah.
I opened a case number with a few complaints before even going in to the dealer. Customer Care gave me the TSB numbers for the Harsh Ride and dash rattle to take in to the dealer, but other items had to be inspected.

The dealer wouldn't address my Dunlop tire issue even though they measured excessive runout and one of them was worn on the edge. They said about 30K was expected from those tires. So they know they are crap tires.

They told me that because I put an aftermarket radio in (after the 2nd OEM one flipped out just like the first one) they couldn't do anything about the dash rattle. I subsequently fixed it myself by following one of the TSB's to fix the felt on the air bag bracket. Asswipes wouldn't even try.

They didn't argue on the springs, but they ordered them and never called me when they came in. I had to call them a couple of weeks later, and the springs had just been sitting there waiting.

When I noticed my DTRL lenses had melted and cracked, I was out of warranty so I wrote an email to the US president of Toyota. Corporate called me a day later and had it taken care of under goodwill, calling back several times to make sure I was being taken care of. I use the same service writer now and he doesn't argue with me.

Moral of the story is, if at first you don't succeed, try calling Customer Care. If that doesn't work, email corporate. But always be professional and reasonable and clearly state your case. Don't expect them to give you a new truck.

Same here... got it done on my 05 4 cyl. prerunner... it sagged with two dirtbikes loaded up. Tell them you are "experiencing a HARSH ride".
