    oh well thats good to hear, in washington they use some salt on the roads if it gets icy but usually just sand. this is gonna be my first winter in montana and have just heard rumors about the roads

    They use salt sparingly on the roads here - usually only on really problematic routes. But then the bighorn sheep come onto the road to eat the salt and they get killed. Then people get pissed off and the highway department promises to stop using salt.

    There are two places that were really bad the last couple of winters - outside of Anaconda and near Big Sky - and lots of animals got killed. Enough people complained and the road dept. had to do something to pacify them.

    :notsure: Got to see what Chris' plans are first then go from there.

    Anyone interested in a meet towards the end of October?
    Just wanted to put a feeler out there because Chris AKA acdronin is going to be in Northern Idaho around that time and he'd like to meet up with some of us if possible. It would be just a day trip somewhere around the Missoula area.
    Its all very sketchy right now, just wanted to see if anyone would be up for a meet at that time. I dont' want to make him drive to MT for nothing!

    Can you think of any other areas nearby? Got to make sure they'd still be open that time of year

    I'll look around on some maps. Garnet is a cool place, been up there a couple times after you showed me around, but the last time I was up there it was pretty sketchy with ice. Never been to Miller Creek.

    I remember you posting that...I'm just glad it wasn't you down there!

    Miller Creek is south of town, lots of old logging roads that interconnect. Nothing terribly difficult back there but its a nice drive and I think its open throughout hunting season. Go to the Walmart on Brooks, take a left and you'll hit the dirt roads after a bit. They end up outside of Clinton/I-90
