winter tire size???

i am getting a set of goodyear wangler duratrac's and wondering if its better to get like 265's or 285's for winter driving????

 

I have a leveling kit and I was reading up on here and apparently u can fit 285's with some trimming. But I am wondering how each one with Handle in the snow and ice

 

id go 285..

I would go 265s. A wider tire will float a little more on snow where a thinner one will help cut through it.

 

So will 285's Handel the ice good? And what size is 285 in inches

Duratracs do great in snow, 285's usually near a 33

 

I'd go with 265s for snow. A 285/75/16 or 285/70/17 is close to a 32x11.50 and 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 are close to a 31x10.50

 

I used to run a BFG M/T 255/75 on a stock 17" and it was awesome in the snow.

 

yea i am going on my stock rim think the 265's will rub anywhere?

 

I ran 265 75 16 on a stock suspension last winter with no issues.

 

My Blizzaks are 265. Next time I will get 255 in a larger diameter. If you are running through deep snow, tall and narrow is the way to go!

 

I agree. Taller, narrower tires cut through the snow better than a wide tire in most situations. However, narrower tires do not perform in ice as well as a wide tire would IMO.

 

What size off set on your rims?

 

Try 235/85R16 or 235/80R17. Awesome tires in the snow.

 

Wider tires are better for float... So mud, sand etc.... For winter driving you want a smaller surface area on the road. This results in more pressure therefore cutting and holding on snow and ice better. So a 265 would hold better than a 285. And wider tires would NOT hold better on ice. It's physics....
