I think its an ass backwards myself, why move the Oilers when the 'Yotes are struggling?

 

It's just posturing by the Oilers to get their way in the Edmonton arena deal IMO

 

Lemieux did the same thing a few yrs back with the Pens. He would fly his partners to Kansas City and Houston trying to play hard ball with the city. In the end it was just golf trips and he never had any intention to move the team.

Kansas City still had an arena waiting an NBA or NHL club sitting empty.

 

Yeah, it's a lot of posturing - but it's also starting to look pretty ugly. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Katz has already stated that he will not renew the Oilers lease with Northlands - and that's up in 2 years. It'll take much longer than 2 years to build a new arena.
All the pissing around between the short-sighted assholes on Edmonton's City Council and the Katz Group has made the time-line all messed up. Katz is pulling the "potential move" card a bit - but City Council is also digging in their heels. Time is being wasted away, and both sides are getting further and further apart.
I know that the NHL will go to the ends of the Earth to see a team not get moved (ie. The Coyotes). But at some point all this shit is going to hit the fan. And as a die-hard Oilers fan since 1977-78, I see that shit flying towards my head now!!

 

Can't compare the Oilers to the Coyotes... the league doesn't run the Oilers!

I agree with this .. the city WANTS the team and will eventually work something out ... I wish the same could be said for the Isles where the town seems to not give a crap

 

I dont know what Katz's deal with Northlands i like, but when Shenkarow sold the Jets back in the day it was beacause he couldn't turn a profit. Teams generally need to own their buildings now so that they can lower their operating costs and make money from operating the concessions themselves. My understanding is that there is a pretty tight model by which you have to operate an NHL franchise. Trying to operate outside of it makes turning a profit near impossible. Bettman will get involved eventually and threaten the city of Edmonton as well. It is always the same song and dance from the NHL. Bettman is deluded, he runs a shit-show.

So which one of you DB's is going to give me your team. We all know it's bound to happen, so which franchise is moving to Seattle. Reports we're hearing out here is that we will probably see a NHL franchise sign before we see a NBA franchise.

Oh and I'm with Oz, the Oilers is all about posturing at this point. At THIS point.
