You live in Chattanooga, there is tons of camping around there bro!

Have you talked to your dad? Ask him to go with you, tell him you need to blow off some steam, be honest with him, how can your dad say no to that.

Hit up TW Tennessee and ask for some killer spot with a river or cliff you can go jump off of into a lake, tons of rednecks (no offense, I am one) there that would be willing to help.
Pack some fire wood and food and hang with your dad and talk to him about your worries.
The weather is starting to turn and nothing more relaxing than a big fire and someone to talk to on a chilly night. Ask him just to listen to you for a minute.

Thanks man, my mom is the paranoid one about driving, her best friend died in a car wreck in high school. So they won't let me just go for a drive. They're on the high side of being over protective but sometimes it's a good thing. I guess I just need to get things where I want them and look for something new. I'm guessing that won't happen till college.

    This.

I mountain bike and go running. But I've noticed that just getting out in the sun for a couple of hours helps a whole lot. We get vitamin D from sunlight.

Well, that's sad about her friend....but she needs to get over it or else the only taco you'll have at college will be pink and will eventually annoy the shit outta you.
Ask her to roll with you...take her to a coffee shop and tell her she needs to get past those worries. I've always been open with my folks and it seemed to help situations such as yours.

I'd love to but my dad works all the time, weekends included, he never takes a break it seems. He's a general contractor and he's got probably 4 or 5 different houses going at the moment so that's what he's always doing. He wants to take me, my grandfather, and one of my buddies fishin at an old family friends house in about 2 weeks, but he said it was going to kill him to take that time off. And I'm not big on talking to my parents about stuff in life, they never really give any support, kinda just make things worse so I don't ever feel like talkin to them.

I think if you get an opportunity to have both you folks around..sit em down and tell them what you're telling us it could definitely wake em up a bit.

Here's a quote that may help you: "the greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives" (William James)

Weston...snap out of it!! quit focusing on this and direct your energy on, what a lot of others have already said, school. I know it's easier said than done, but if you practice directing your mental energy on more productive avenues, everything will just fall in place. Just know and believe that others have gone thru worse and have survived and flourished.

when your going thru "shit", don't stop and reflect...keep going, eventually you'll get out of it.

First of all, remember that what is happening is that you are going through a funk. GOING THROUGH are the key words here. You are moving through an experience, and the good news is, is that you wont STAY in it. :)

Okay you know what's bothering you is that there is stress for grades and getting yourself prepared for college, right?

    WHY?

Why are you stressing about it? This is your last year of high school and it should be the most memorable. Just don't fool around when it comes to school work, do what you can and you will be okay. Your parents expect the best, I know, but if you give them your best, that is who you are. Nobody is perfect. And you can't look at the other guy in class and say "Dang, why is he getting all the good grades??" You know you do, so stop it. You are YOU. Not Joe Schmoe. Do your honest best, that's the most anyone can expect out of you. You listening to me?

Another thing is that you gotta love yourself sincerely. Are you a good kid? Do you go around stealing? Drinking and driving? Passing around a horrible disease? Are you a druggie?

    See, I didnt' think so.

You're a good kid, right? Look around you. Look at the news. Look at all the bad kids that are running around, starting trouble. Love yourself for not being that way. Be proud of yourself for that. It's hard to be good with all of the temptation around and if you are not hurting anyone or yourself, then you are on the right path.

So give yourself some credit that you are doing the best you can and are a good son. Sure, parents may expect a lot but they only truly want the most for you. They don't want you sad or upset - they don't want you hurt - but they do want you to be successful.

As for your mother's fear of you driving alone, I agree with what was said above and that perhaps cozy little chat with her might help. Explain to her that you understand her fears but she has to trust you and your judgment. She might come back and say that she doesn't trust others....at that point you again have to reiterate that you need to be able to prove to her that you will be okay and are grown up enough to be able to handle this.

If she gives you a chance, out of courtesy ask her what time you should be home and then come home half hour early. That will show responsibility and she will love that. :)

So again, ask yourself why you are so bummed out and then you take the tools that you have and handle it. You're going to be okay. You really will.

I'm a freshman @ Clemson and i made my schedule where im done with classes after Noon. I run, road cycle, listen to music, just go find something that you THINK you'd enjoy doing. By all means be safe about whatever you're doing.

I think you're just going thorough a tough time but think about it, how many 17 years olds (like yourself and almost me ) has a tacoma and has all the possessional things that most kids dont have? I use that as my motivation to set time aside to just do my schoolwork and then play.

Just find your niche and keep your head up.

Best advice in the thread. So if I'm understanding right you are in the middle of your senior year? That was the best year of high school! You're cruisin man. Don't stress about grades, I'm not saying don't try, but you have your whole life in front of you and once you're done with high school, its yours for the taking, you can do whatever the hell you want. ^^Hillbilly had a damn good idea if you are down in the dumps though.

Hahahahahahhaha I knew I always liked you! (from other posts anyways) but yes, this definitely clicked. Thank you. I know it's supposed to be "the best year ever" but worrying about grades is kinda ruining that. Anything less than a C and I don't have a truck anymore....no excuses. I've got 2 D's which are 1 and 2 points from being a C but I'm afraid one of them is going to be dropping after a previous test. Anyways, thank you again. Going to be putting forth as much effort as I have and work on being happy. My dad always asks "What happened to the happy-go-lucky Weston?" and honestly i haven't seen my old self in a long time either. Just trying to find a way to be that happy again like I was when I was younger.

Thanks man, I read your thread about what to bring to college hahaha I was dying the whole way through from laughter. Also a little help for the future. And you've definitely got a point, I needed a reminder of work first, them play.

Yeah, beginning of my senior year. It's just hard not to stress about grades when they determine whether I have my truck or not....What really kills me is the thought of disappointing my parents. That's my number one fear, I hate doing that more than anything.
