shit! finally some dudes that know what they're talking about

if one has never been down range, or even better if they have never even put on a uniform then that person needs to shut the fuck up and stop pretending they know a damn thing about what to do or what the best course of action would be in that given situation.

non military people should be thanking this guy for volunteering to be there while they sit behind their computer and speculate.

I saw the video a few days ago. The guy is nothing short of a fucking moron. I know everyone reacts to being shot at differently but damn. Everything he did was the exact opposite of the right thing to do. I feel bad for his family, but not him. Sounds mean as hell, but war ain't for the weak. Its some brutal shit and if your stupid then bad shit will happen to you. Coming from a combat wounded infantryman, this guy needs to find a new job. If I could make memes out of the video they would look like this:

Takes fire - "better walk as slow as possible"
Takes fire - "better get into the open "

Gets hit - "better throw my rifle down this fucking mountain"
Gets hit - "self aid? Never heard of it, better just lay here and do nothing"

It didnt seem that way to me, but thats what we have one point slings for.

Walking down the exposed side of a hill is retarded. There was one point where he was walking laterally. If I had to guess Id say he was slow as shit cause he had a pack on. One pf the first things he should have done was drop the pack so that's no excuse.

i'll always respect the opinion/insight/point of view of any Marine. You make some very valid points and i agree with all of them. I engaged from the other angle trying to get untrained/inexperienced people to stop speculating and appreciate the fact that they've been here while he was over there.

next time i'm in Orlando, beers are on me.

Check out army wtf moments out on Facebook some guy from his company posted about what really happened sounding along the lines that this dude is full of it and wasn't shot four times and only received scratches? Is it true. No idea, but I know I've met a lot of guys in the army that liked to fluff their stories.

I'm no GI Joe... thats for damn sure!!!

    1) Take cover by his fellow soldiers... what, so that a single strife or placed mortar can take out a couple of you out, not just one... also he was drawing fire so that the rest of his team can lay down well placed fire not just suppressive fire, there is always one willing to do this so that you can gain a better tactical advantage...

    2) Really the only time zig zagging is effective is on level ground with no/little cover... you said so your self running down hill, changing elevation is the best thing to do! plus if you have ever fired an automatic you know it rises and pulls at an angle unless it has an effective compensator on it.

    3) He did take cover for as long as he needed to make the "bad guys" think he was no longer a threat... it is not fucking paintball... once your hit your not out! the best and only thing you can do is lay down fire! And if you do have a life threatening injury you are not going to get any help until every threat is eliminated! He did MORE and made BETTER decisions than 99.9% of people in that situation! and FYI the camera was mounted on the side of his helmet, so yea it did look like his head was up but he was only pieing over the rock just enough to see the threat.

And you really had to bring COD into this... that shows your level of experience! What TRUE ground soldier would ever have something that bulky and be so useless in 90% of situations? that is for the LT. to carry.

Start on what? Nothing penetrated his body armor... not a thing in there for broken ribs and bruises... plus the first and really the only thing that could be remotely helpful in the IFAK while the bullets are still flying would be a turnakit.

    ^^^ all three of these!
I kinda regret posting this now... if you dont really know... then just be grateful that you dont really know!!!

Very hard to call this one from this limited video. Nobody knows what they will do when the shit hit the fan in a firefight ... there is no "text book firefight".

Hard to second guess his actions (good or bad) ... and at least this guy is alive to tell about it.

Thanks bud, and yeah people that havent been in gunfights have no place saying what should have been done.

I never saw that he was shot four times. Just from the video I would say maybe once (when he threw his rifle like it was a frisbie), probably took some fragments from rounds hitting the rocks.

As for walking out in the open so they shoot at you while the others return fire, that's some movie shit. Unless you're a medal chaser or a potato, that shit doesn't happen. Expose yourself to get/give ammo, shoot a rocket, help the wounded, sure.

Exactly and idk about you guys but if I had a video of a fire fight I was in (luckily haven't been in one), I wouldn't post it on YouTube or anywhere for that matter. That's not something you should be sharing in my opinion. Seems like he is looking for people to praise him. Which is why I don't doubt what was said about him on army wtf moments. I mean keeping the video and showing your buddies sure a few beers and sharing " battle stories" nothing wrong with that. This though! Wouldn't catch me posting that along with most of the armed forces.

... Really??? exact opposite? if you know the background to what was happening then you would know that they did take cover and were all pinned down together... He made THE decision to act!!! and to try and improve the tactical situation for his team because when everyone is just hiding behind rocks trying to suppress fire is not tactical at all! . So many times teams, squads, and even larger elements do just that and not gaining anything from it except wasting ammo and putting there selfs in a worse situation by running low/out of ammo get FUCKED!!!

When on the side of a mountain slow is the way to go... going fast and breaking a knee/ankle or tearing a tendon does not help anyone!

Throw the rifle... i am sure when it got shot, some fragmentation hit his hands/fingers... and yea if i felt a sudden painful sting i would react about the same!
    the
    And self aid... for what???

And i know a lot of haters and jealous people in the army also!!! You can hear at least one round hit his plate!!! IDK about 4, i just copied the title...
and about the scratches part... I saw one of MY team member get shot, and all it looked like was a bruise... and every hater back at the VPB had to put there own little twist on it to down play it... but you know what, HE GOT SHOT, but was lucky!

I agree 100% there are a ton of "haters" in the army. Why post this on YouTube though. Civilians do not need to know what we are doing there. Hell I bet there are some that would say what I though we were already out of Afghanistan. We are professionals and we shouldn't be seeking glory and a pat on the back. Posting this video that person was doing just that. Also it could be used for terrorist as a recruiting tool as cliche as that sounds, but it's perfect propaganda for them how ever they would like to twist and turn it. I haven't seen the video because my Internet sucks here but, if he got shot I'm glad he is alive and isn't in Walter Reed.

Take this as a Monday morning QB w/ no combat experience ...

Yeah I was wondering about that too. Why the hell did he advance w/o a battle buddy or someone to help out?

And second, ok, you're hit, we've all heard it. But are you hurt? Or are you just yelling out of reflex? Either way, I'm sure logical thoughts weren't running through his mind. Hopefully, in the AAR, someone chewed him out for being dumb enough to leave cover alone.

It does look as though he threw it, but supposedly a round tore right through the grenade launcher, ripping it from his hands.-(video description)

Was it a grappling hook round? It should have pushed it towards his body. Just another reason that we use slings. If that's the case the rifle is fine and he made no attempt to get it back and fight. My plt Sgt and CO would have charged him for losing his rifle.
