First post here so bare with me. Just sold my old 93 sas truck and looking to buy a 2nd gen Tacoma and , having trouble deciding on the cab I would like the best. I like having the 6ft. bed of the acess cab but would not like the length of the longer bed on the double cab. what do you guys think or do you have any comments. Thanks

I also chose a access cab for the longer bed, as I sleep in the bed during hunting trips. I personally think the cab size is perfect for two people, as the rear "seats" can be folded down to provide a flat floor, and it's great for storing lots of gear.

However, if you plan on frequently carrying passengers in the backseat, I'd recommend the double cab, as the rear seat of an access cab is less than optimal for passenger's on long trips...

    Ditto on the above post.
I made the choice based on wanting to carry dirtbikes in the back and only occasionally carrying kids behind the seats. I can also get two scoops of mulch in the bed.
I have an 11 year old and a 8 year old that only recently complain about having to ride back there if the trip is over an hour. We have a minivan also, so that isn't often. The dogs never complain. They seem quite enthusiastic.

Thanks I also haul more stuff in the bed then haul passengers around, but with two grand kids and car seats the double cab would be more acessible and they like to go with grand pa.

Not on the newer access cabs. It changed in maybe '09 or '10.

Well, have you checked out the back seat of an Access cab? It's definitely car seat accessible, it's quite a bit roomier than it looks from the outside. I know they have anchor points for car seats.

I have the DCLB, no real issues with length other than it doesn't really fit in my tiny subdivision cookie cutter garage. Still easy to park and for daily driving though and i'm coming from a tiny little Mazda3. I have kids though so the double cab was a must. Still, I would recommend it, especially if you'll be driving the grand kids around.

I have a DC short bed ... and a small 5x8 trailer that hold 3500 lbs.

True. There is only 12" of difference between the AC and DC, and that seems to be the back of the seat, with the difference being that anyone in the back has the sit up straight with their back against the AC cab wall.

I chose the Access cab for the longer bed and a car seat fits fine for hauling my granddaughter. Plus putting my tools and gear in the access cab works out well.

Thanks for the great info. I've been leaning towards the ac until yesterday when I drove a double cab. Then I was all confused again. So I will have to give it some more thought and let you know when I get the new ride.

Access Cab all the way! I went through the same dilemma, but what's the point of a truck if it has a 4' bed? Can't really put anything in it.

5' is the short bed, 6' is the long. But yes I see/get your point.

I wanted a access cab, she insisted on a DCSB. After having owned it... I'm a big fan.

But it all depends on what you use your truck for. Hauling people, DCSB no contest. Do you use your bed alot and only carry one more person?

Our hauling needs are covered by a 5x8 utility trailer

All you can do is look specifically at your needs and make the choice from there. One criteria for me is being able to sleep in the bed. If I couldn't at least do that, I probably wouldn't get a pickup. Even the access cab bed is small for hauling, but it generally works for me. It's surprising how many things just don't fit. The 5 foot bed would be worse in that regard, if that matters. I can only carry one passenger in my truck since I converted the access area to dog seating. I built a lexan barrier similar to what police use and put down a mat for the dogs. That has worked out very well, so the access cab has been the best choice for me.

Hmmm, i have a 6' foot bed. Fits plenty of stuff and I can haul my kids without them being crammed.

I have an AC and am more than happy with it, there is actually quite a bit of room behind the seats for storage. I dont even count them as seats back there. But i have no kids and dont plan on hauling anyone other than myself and the girlfriend around so I chose the AC for the longer bed. I dont like the DCLB looks goofy IMO.

I rode in the back of my AC once, I will never subject anyone to that experience ever again.
