Why would you want to try it that way? I don't know how far into the pan the tube goes but pulling the drain plug is considerably easier than trying to push a small hose down the tube and sucking out the oil that way.

    Why would you do that?

Did something happen to your oil drain plug? Or can't you get it off?

It's possible to siphon the oil. But because the Tacoma's oil pan has a smaller bow/hump toward the rear of the engine, you might not be able to siphon out all the old oil. You have to make sure your siphon hose somehow reach this area, that way you can siphon all the old oil (pretty hard to do).

On my MBZ 280C, I siphon the oil out. Because the pan at the bottom is perfectly flat, I just stick the siphon hose down the dip stick, make sure it touch the oil pan, turn on the pump, sit back have a couple beers, then fill her up with new oil again.

On a Tacoma, I recommend doing it the old fashion way. Here's a few link for you if you still want to go the siphon way.

I had a setup for my VW. Tried it on my Tacoma. I got about 2-3 quarts out. So I put the pump away and unbolted the drain. You have to get under the truck to get the filter off anyway. They sell drain valves so you thread a hose on and can fill a container (less mess) I did that on a few cars. As long as you make sure the threads don't leave a puddling area in the pan it works great.

Yes, and I am jealous of the nifty location that the 6-cyl's have. Way easier to get to the filter on the six!

I too am jealous of the filter location. Am tempted to relocate the filter. First time I yanked it I got oil all over everywhere. The easiest trick is to put an old tubesock over it to absorb any spilled oil.

Had a filter relocator on my '99 by Permacool I believe. I think I got it from performance products back when. I put it under the drivers front fender under the battery and a change only took about 10 min. tops. Drain pan set on the tire for filter and one under the pan. Haven't had to change the '08 V6 yet but must say that the engineers did good on this one.
