I currently have the stock TRD Sport 17" rims with the factory tire. I'm pretty much sold on Duratracs. My question comes down to the rim size. I found some nice 16" FJ TRD wheels on eBay that would look pretty good. Is there any difference in overall tire size if the rim size is different? Would 265's on 16's be 1 inch shorter overall or would I gain a half inch more sidewall and the tires be the same height? Any benefit going one way or the other? Disadvantages? MPG different between the two? Any input is appreciated.

As you can see from the other responses, they're basically identical in diameter. You will see zero difference between the two, other than the height of the sidewall having a difference of half an inch.

FYI, the only way a tire changes in overall size between wheel diameters, is if you're running the same size tire on each. For example:

    265/70/16 and 265/70/17 = 17" tire will be taller
    265/75/16 and 265/70/17 = same size tire

My Tacoma came with 17" and I went down to 16 x 8.5 wheel and 265/75/16...and I am very happy. Call me old school, but I think more rubber than wheel looks better on a 4x4. 16" tires and wheels are much less expensive than the 17" counter parts.

I noticed that the tire prices for the 16's were cheaper then the 17's too. But not cheap enough to counter the cost of the new wheels. Your truck looks great.

I have 265/70r17 tires on my truck but my spare is a 265/70r16. Can I get a 265/75r16 tire for my 16 inch rim. Or does the millimeter difference on the chart above matter. I just don't want to by another 17 inch rim if I don't need to.
