Water in the cab!

Greetings! I'm new to the forum...mostly been lurking and staying on the sidelines, enjoying the helpful advice and humor.

My '07 Double Cab has a bad case of water intrusion! Went to clean the truck after a heavy rain and found the pass. side carpet all wet!!!

Pulled the carpet and found the insulation under the carpet soaked. The drain plugs are intact and seem to be making a good seal. Anyone else have this perplexing problem???

welcome to tw!!! sorry to hear about the water problem man. try looking around the firewall...and also the windshield seal to make sure there arent any bad spots. some other people have had this problem too....im sure someone will chime in and be able to tell you more.

 

Could it be coming from the roof and running down from somewhere???

Thanks all for your replies! I am looking at the door seal as a possible culprit. Also, the drain plugs may be allowing water in. A lot of trial and error to find out the cause. Does anyone know if this is a warranty item?

it should definitely be a warranty issue.....if you are still within your warranty mileage.

 

Have someone use a water hose from the outside and (you) on the inside look for water coming in. Use a flashlight and listen carefully.

 

I'd guess door seals as well. They aren't the strongest in stock form.

 

Something similar just happened to me yesterday.... I was pressure washing the back driver side window, I open the door later and there is water all on the seats everywhere. I checked the window and it was completely shut.

 

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding...... I bet thats it. I had the same problem with my 09. The dealer told me it was a faulty door seal. All covered under warranty. I asked for new carpets and what not and they said if they can't clean the carpets and dry the carpet properly they will replace it. They actually did a really good job and the truck smells like new and you would never kmow there was a puddle in there. And so far no more water problems.

 

I had a similar issue with the rear windshield. I just figured it came thru the slider. And in my case it was muddy water...so it could be worse. Nothing when i wash it, just the one time when i was wheeling in mud. Eh, shit happens.

I'm heading to the dealer and asking "WTFO!?" Maybe I'll leave out the "F" though! The insulation under the carpet is completely soaked so I'm hoping they will replace it. I'll keep y'all updated!!!

OBTW, from a previous lurking session, I took the advice of a veteran poster and got the Bestop softtop for my DC. I'll post pics soon. Very happy so far...only minor gripe was a little water in the bed. Still working on tweaks and squeeks to get it completely right, but happy so far.

Do let me know how you like that Bestop. I'm thinking of a shell but my dog says it has to be convertible so's he can still stick his head around the cab and watch for goats.

Like it so far. Nice option is the screen windows for the sides. Not purchased yet but will be in the near future.

Like I said earlier...I do get some water in the bed but for the most part it keeps things relatively dry. I am still messing with it to try to dercrease the amount of water that gets in.

As far as the water in the cab, the dealer ran it thru the wash several times (so he says) but found no leak. Brought the truck home and the carpets were wet again He told me the carpets were dried and that everything checked out. I'll be bringing it back to get them to dry and detail the carpets! Other than that, will have to continue to troubleshoot to figure this one out.

 

So I went out to vacuum my truck today, and I got a surprise. I have Tacoma mud mats, and when I lifted the passenger front one to take it out, water was dripping from under it. I checked through the holes in the carpet (for the mat hooks) and water is almost standing underneath. Checked all the other mats, and they're the same way, though the front two are worse. I smelled the carpets, and it wreaks of mildew. Oh, and it did rain today. The truck was purchased Sept. 2008 with less than 10K miles, so I'm pretty pissed off.

This is not the first time I have noticed water in the cab. It seems like recently every time it rains, the windshield fills up with condensation on the inside. I plan on taking it to the dealership ASAP. Anyone have similar stories??

UPDATE:
Woke up this morning (I live in FL so it's HOT) and the damn carpets were still pretty saturated with water. I took the truck to the dealership I bought it from brand new today, and their response was, "Yeah, this is a pretty serious issue, so we're glad you brought it in right away." No kidding. They ruled out the windshield leaking, so they are keeping it through at least tomorrow and are pulling out the complete interior. I am absolutely sick about this situation, but I'll update when I find something else out.
