I get average 3-7 mbps and over 250 ping. sucks

Those are your upload speeds and download speeds. Yours are decent for Idaho (Idaho has some of the slowest internet in the country...) the ping is your response time when accessing the internet. 56 is good. 250 sucks...

I used to get that back in high school and it was great for COD4 on my PC.

well the speed is constantly changing. You can't just do that little test and expect that everytime. If you did that test once every 5 minutes for a week then averaged it..then you'd know more what your speed is.

So it might be a stretch, and at this point I am not sure how likely this is of actually all coming together, but I have the opportunity to go down to the Baja 1000 and be part of the chase trucks crew for my buddy's race team. The only problem really is missing the entire week of school, and scrounging up 3-500 bucks to help pay for transportation and food.

 

Would be fun, but missing school sucks and won't that cut your budget tight?

yes, but if i ate cheap i could go for 300 bucks. All i have to cover is my own food and help with gas to get down. Everything else is covered. And yes missing school would suck, but i only go 2 days a week, and i am pretty sure I could get most of my hw done at the hotels at night since just about everything is online.

It would be sweet. But there are so many unknowns.

The ping numbers are counted in milliseconds. 250 ms (slooow response time to send and receive back an acknowledgement) is 250 millionths of a second. compare that to Monte raving about 56 millionths of a sec being decent (not really).

Upload/download speeds are measured in megabits (small "mb)" as opposed to megabytes (which you hear referenced in hard drive space), per second.

7 mbps download speed (the important one unless you are big on file sharing) isn't too bad actually. 3.9 mbps is just OK. Nothing special especially as these measuring tool typically show the peak, not the average.

Sounds like T1 technology. Typical for business applications because the provider usually guarantees no down time. T1s are expensive tho. I know about T1s because of work. We have 2 bonded T1s (2.9 up/2,9 down) being shared by 16 hungry youtube viewers. I've seen the bandwidth useage at 100%, causes the browsers to crash. Not good.

Ben's and Ian numbers are more typical of DSL type of connection, usually provided by the phone company, piggybacked on the copper telephone lines.

For comparisons sake only, at home I have comcast cable. Typical ping is in the 8-10 ms range and download speeds are usually around 18-20 mbps. Over the years I've come to appreciate just how fast that really is. But it is expensive too.

3.67 mbps upload

I have comcast for internet and a Digirat built PC!

50ms ping is what I found the faster guys had when I was a gamer...granted that was..6 years ago? S I'm sure a lot has changed.

I'd also take a new boss 302. Supposed to be a hoot to drive. The guy that bought my supra is almost done with it. Can't wait to get to drive it. Will be around 280hp I'd think or more to the wheels. Not bad I guess. He didn't go all ape shit on it like I was haha. Still be fun to drive tho.
