Bought my wife a new car to replace her 2011 Ford Edge Sport that was getting about 15 MPG's around town and she was getting gas about every three days. Got her a 2013 VW Passat TDI SEL. I got about 45 MPG on the way home from Vegas doing 80-85 MPH and when I drove it into work on my commute doing 60-65 MPH I got about 56 MPG. The car is awesome. 700 - 800 miles per tank of fuel.

Not a fan of the Jetta's rear suspension, but would LOVE to get my hands on a TDI something, with a rear independent suspension...

That sir, is a beautiful vehicle. If I wasn't in need of AWD or 4x4 around here I would be all over a VW TDI in a heartbeat :) congrats!

Not knocking the TDI. From what I have read, they are awesome vehicles. My only question is whether those mileage figures are calculated by miles driven divided by gallons of gas from the pump or from the computer in the car. I have read of some cases (other makers, I believe) where the computer was not calibrated correctly.

There are a few other cars that can mileage in that neighborhood. I have had 3 or 4 others that regularly got 45 to 50+ mpg (highway) on gasoline. However, they all had manual transmissions and were not as well appointed as the TDI.

As usual the U.S. is way behind europe in diesel vehicles.
Great car and hopefully they will start slipping more oilburners into our car and truck production.

Wait, a vehicle that gets more than 40 mpg, and doesn't look like a weird shaped box or some kind of non car? Count me in! That's a great looking car.

I have the wagon, plenty of room and the suspension is great! I love getting 45mpg and on my way to work my average speed is slightly above the posted limit....Nothing like 600 miles to a tank!

Yes it is nice. I just bought a 2013 Jetta TDI 6 speed maunal. Right now the gas gauge is between the half, and quarter tank mark. And I am at about 500 miles right now
