Interesting take on "car" camping I kind of agree with.

When I go Backpacking, that's when I rough it with my boys. 14 mile days with 2500 feet of elevation gain, CLIF Bars and Beef Jerky for lunch and then I get to sleep in a small one man tent with my sweaty clothes as a pillow and a can of bear spray next to my headlamp.

When I car camp, I'm with my wife and 5 year old daughter and I want to make it fun for them. I make cheese fondue on the Coleman propane stove, the little girl can bring as many toys as she wants, smores and jiffy pop popcorn by the fire. Glow sticks for the little girl to play with at night, comfy chairs, a queen size inflatable mattress my ENO hammock for lounging. Books, telescopes for stargazing, mimosas at breakfast. My truck is overloaded with excessive car camping gear, but it helps them enjoy camping...and I do love sleeping on that inflatable mattress.

So the family and I just got back from Mtn. Lassen. It was an awesome trip. We hiked to the top of Lassen to watch the Sunset and Moon rise all at the same time. Got some spectacular pics. The camping was great as well, we were able to stay at the south entrance and the park fee was waved for a national park appreciation day. So here are the pics of our trip.

That's a question only you can answer. I said it was an interesting article that I "kind of agree with". I see people that try to turn the outdoors into a "weekend at home" and I ponder why. The whole point for my camping is to get away. If anyone likes to be outdoors with the creature comforts of home who am I to judge them for enjoying the outdoors in a different way?

I do wholeheartedly agree with the statements concerning "over-landing" and "expeditions". Go camping for fun. Anyone that turns camping into "beating the Jones's" is missing the whole point and might as well stay at home IMHO.

This year I had planned several camping trips, but because my Tacoma died, I had to cancel them.
But I have not left defeated and I made a last camping trip this year with my work truck(2wd).

Enjoy your trip! Gonna be chilly nights coming up :D

Went to the BLM's Indian Creek Campground this past week with a buddy of mine. No big hikes, just kick back and relax. Hung out with the dogs. Drink beer and eat well. Indian Creek is near the town of Markleeville, CA.

Hope Valley, which is on the way is starting to really color up.

This thing, Skunk Cabbage I think, is about to bloom-or it looks like it.

This is Indian Creek Reservoir. The campground is tucked in the trees on the left side.

Camp was really nice and clean. Showers and flush toilets

    Dinner never sucks camping.

Awesome weekend just hanging and playing with the dogs.

Just got back from Lone Pine (CA) / Mt. Whitney Portal. Fabulous trip--perfect weather, great hikes, and excellent campground (Tuttle Creek).

    Also--my Taco's First 4x4 experience (Alabama Hills). :D

It was also Lone Pine's annual Film Days Festival (many movies shot there). Was a little more crowded than I anticipated...

ian408: great pics.. LOVE the Markleeville area--have done the passes several times..

george2pak: looks great! what river was that?

I will post some pics tomorrow..

    Thanks!

I prefer the passes on a motorcycle. Did that last year and was going to do it this year but it looks like Grover Hot Springs (our destination) is going to close any day now. Their website says there's a restroom problem and they're going to close as soon as it gets below freezing at night :(
