I've switched to Penzoil Syn in my car and truck. Can't say I can tell a difference, but can usually get Penzoil a bit cheaper. Have 168k on my car and still runs like new.

The guy I bought my truck from was actually employed as an Amsoil salesman and he used the stuff religiously on the truck. Gotta say the engine feels new and everything is really clean and quiet under the hood, so I will likely keep going with the Amsoil. Why mess with what works.

Toyota states they use Mobil 1 I recently found out there is 5 or more different Mobil ones and a lot of websites state that the cheaper Mobil ones are Dino based oils that have been super refined and Toyota uses the cheapest and that's a 100 buck oil change

I'm going to try Mobil 1s extended perfomance 5w30 soon. (coupon) :D

Anyone know the actual difference in Mobil 1 regular synthetic and "extended performance"?

No reason to use it on the new truck... stick with the 5k change intervals and regular M1.
EP is "guaranteed" to 15k, but they also say to go with the factory intervals while under warranty... IOTW, if you have a problem, Mobil ain't buying you a new engine.

The Mobil-1 site used to have a comparison between the two.
I used to run the EP in my wife's Rav4 because she's not always good about telling me when the light came on.

Okay... "not always good" is an understatement... her oil gets changed when I happen to ride with her instead of drive to go shopping and notice that the light is on.

Anyways, after reading the chart, I went back to regular 5w30.

Thanks Rich. I'm goona run it once due to price but I'll stick with the regular stuff in both in the future. I took the quiz thing on M1 website for fun n it recommended extended performance for the 93 but who trusts the people with something to gain with sales recommendations? Ha I'll keep researching too but thanks for your input.

while i dont work in the automotive sector I read all the industry mags(lubes and Greases) and there has been consistently one major problem with offbrand and bulk motor oils. Many off brands dont meet manufacturer specs for cleanliness,or even the API, SAE spec's even though they claim to. Even more concerning is that there are people whowill sell crap labled as major brand names. This primarily happens on the bulk oilside at lube shops. Its happened several times and the big guys are clampingdown but i still dont trust. There have been many law suits. Over seas its worse. Ive had people call me upasking for cheap AW & hydraulic oils and if they can be used in engines andwhat s the worse that could happen. Gotta love those questions -- like i dontknow what is going on

I work on the industrial side and I have a major problem right now in Argentina wherea local manufacturer is rebranding his product with my product name. Inferiorproduct which is creating a problem for me

I use bottled oil bought at major brand stores (walmart, costco or others)

    5000 is conventional oil, non-synthetic.
