I looked long and hard at the 235/85-16.
I wanted the bigger diameter, but was worried about the heavier weight of a E tire (LT).
I ended up getting a P265/75-16 which was 3 pounds lighter but same diameter.
Still debating whether I did the right thing. I love both looks.
I wish there was a non-LT version of the 235/85-16 for Michelin LTX-MS2.
Not close to rubbing with 5100s@.85 and the TSB leafs in rear.

That's what happens when you don't pay attention to what's going on around you at night.

I have a 2wd access cab 2.7L, completely stock drivetrain, suspension and wheels. The stock 215/75R15 street radials will need replacing next year and I want slightly larger street radial tires. Yes I know larger tires will affect fuel economy slighly but I drive like a sissy anyway so I'm not worried. I just want something that will fill the wheel wells better than the rollerskate-sized 215s, to me they don't seem right on a mid-size truck. I'm thinking 235/75R15 only because there aren't many options in the 225/75R15 size. Will the 235s be too large for my stock fenders & suspension, or just right? Should I go with 225 instead? Thoughts? I did some searching and didn't find much discussion on larger tire sizes for stock 2wd 4cyl 2nd gen Tacomas. Here's what I am considering:

    It should work fine

    Diameter inches (mm) 27.7 (703.5) 28.88 (733.5) 1.18 (30) 4.3%

they are only a little over an inch taller, you'll need to make sure that they won't rub the UCA because they are wider.

235/85/16 are really awesome on my 09 Access 2.7 4x4, fuel economy is very much the same if not better at some speeds.
    No rubbing.
The ride is a bit stiffer. (mine are also at 50 psi right now)
Winter traction should be an improvement.

I went with BFG A/T KO, love these tires!!!!!

I just checked the top and side clearance with the standard tires at normal load/compression on my 2nd gen standard suspension -- there's no component anywhere near the tires, well over 2" in all directions. Are you saying there could there be clearance issues at full compression?

I'm very interested in these tires and love the tall/skinny look. I wonder how they would look with stock aluminum wheels and the spidertrax 1.25" spacers.

LT rated tire (E) is much heavier than the same sized P-metric sized tire. If all you do is highway and mild offroad, there is no real advantage to an LT tire. We can't haul enough to overload a P-metric tire.

My next one will probably be a LT235/85-16 LTX MS2. I love the Michelins.

Here are a few pictures of a truck I saw back in December running 235's. I'm debating whether I want 255's or 235's. If only there was a 255/85 option for the bfg at.

This truck was in Santa Fe near the Toyota dealership. If anyone knows who the owner is and if he's on here, ask them to give us some input on how they like the tire size.

i ran 235's on my 2nd gen when stock with no issues, they didn't look huge and awesome to some ppl but i was happy with them while i had them. recently went to a 265/75 and am happy i did. of course i went from the canadian tire special goodyear territories to dick cepek mud countries, a different world in terms of tires. i did notice a drop in gas mileage since though, seems to be about 1 extra litre per 100km..
