ik its a huge differance from that to the cost of a new truck. but if i am to get that fixed idt it will be worth modding the truck the way i want.

i have already been offered 10grand for the truck as is. so a 30grand truck im already looking at 20grand insted

its not that im being an ass. the changing of the part is a more difficult job. i am just trying to figure out if i should wait an extra 6 months or get the truck in december. i am leaning towrds waiting the 6 months, i just am tired of the tundra and enjoy the taco more (have driven a taco on and off road and love it)

I'd say if you can afford a new truck and want one that bad then go for it! I'd wait until you graduate though cause your absolutely right, kids dont have any respect for other peoples property these days and I dont think it would be worth it to risk a new truck parked at school. Haters will hate and key it or mess with it.

If you want it, buy it. Plus, with your Dad's Toyota discount, financing at 2.9% for 60 months it is a great time.

From what I have been seeing, the difference between a 2008 with 60k+ miles and new is like $5k, so buying new makes sense. The used market for Tacos is crazy here in Colorado.

Ok fine ill be the one to say it, not replacing your actuator and buying a brand new truck is a a bad idea.

You could replace your entire transfer case with one on CL for less than that estimate, and 4x4 actuators are simple devices,
Your 4x4 actuator is either vacuum or electric, If yours is vacuum I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a cracked rubber hose in the works, not the entire actuator. the electric ones are also simple motors that turn one gear ran by a set of limit switches.

I would take another look at fixing it before you give up on it, with just one opinion is all I am saying.

Got cash???... use it for a down payment for a house for cripes sake. ;)

You've (I hope you have) probably heard this from a few older folks and maybe you didn't like the answer, but it is the correct answer.... Buying a new vehicle is NOT a wise investment for a teen.

FYI, read this thread 10+ years from now, then you'll see what some of us are talking about..... guaranteed! ;)

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Personally, I'd run out the miles on that Tundra first, sounds like you got a really solid truck already. Plus if you decide to go to college, there is the same amount of disrespectful assholes there too that take pride in keying and door-dinging vehicles. The Tacoma will not do much better on gas I doubt, unless you get 4 banger.

OP why are you even asking this question about getting a new truck when it seems your mind is made up, if you want the truck then get it! But stop going back and forth on this form trying to get the answer you wanna hear. i say do what you wanna do! :D
