anybody running without swaybar

i am thinking about taking off the sway bar, how does it handle off road, street, i just think it is holding the handling back, but i don't want to go under the truck and disconnect anything if people don't like the way it handles, mainly will be doing desert and some trails, no rock crawling. thanks in advance.

 

I read on I think total chaos website under the spindles that when you put tc spindles on they actually take the sway bar off since its not necessary. I guess the suspension performs better. Lemme see if i can find it....

Finally a race inspired bolt on lift spindle for your 2005+ Tacoma Prerunner, 06+ FJ 4x2 and 03-07 4Runner 4x2. TOTAL CHAOS spindles are designed to add an additional 3.5” of lift and can be installed with existing aftermarket mid travel upper control arm and coil over shock packages. These systems combined provide 6”+ of lift and maximum cross member ground clearance, allowing you to Install up to a 35” tire. Our tubular tower and plate design features internal gussets along with overlay plates to add strength and reinforcement to proven weak areas. The tower includes a tapered bung that offers a pocket to access the aftermarket uniball conversion nut or thefactory ball joint. The CNC machined billet hub includes a one piece bearing carrier, and caliper mounts that are integrated into the boxed main body. To maximize strength, TC’s spindle was designed to not retain the factory sway bar. With the heavier spring rates of aftermarket coil over shocks and the increased track width provided by the spindles (3/4” per side), the sway bar removal is not noticeable. Removing the sway bar also allows for maximum wheel travel and articulation which will greatly improve the vehicles off road handling and performance. TOTAL CHAOS lift spindles come powder coated black and include a pair of D.O.T. approved stainless extended brake lines. Lift spindles that are intended to be installed with TC long travel systems must be specified at time of purchase. ABS wire tabs and brake line tabs are included to aid in routing the lines away from contact areas to prevent damage to these components.
These will fit 6-lug 2WD vehicles only!

I dont know of anyone who has taken it off though so I cant vouch for that. Wouldnt hurt to try

 

I wouldn't take it off.

Surely, you could drive around with it off and you might not notice anything.

But, if you ever had an emergency situation and had to quickly swerve around something...... that could be the difference between the vehicle staying on all 4 wheels or .....on two and on its roof.

For offroading, disconnect them as needed. Keep it connected for on-road use.

 

that was the main thing keeping it on, i will disconnect before i go off road. thanks guys.

 

i ditched mine when i bagged the truck, but i ride 2-3" off the ground, so no worries, on anything stock or higher i wouldn't want to take it off on the road

 

I've taken mine off, and will not be putting it back on. It handles so much better on gravel roads, and off road. I can hardly notice any difference on road, slight body roll on hard corners, I don't drive fast anyway.

I took mine off and then put it back on. I have a DC with Icons. I am getting the TSB leafs tomorrow and I am going to wait and see how it handles before I consider taking off agian. I drive on the freeway alot and I drive fast, so I think I am better with it.

 

I just took mine off. Wow suspension is soooooo much sweeter, but I can really feel the body roll on corners. I'm gonna leave it off for a few days and see how I like it, most likely ill be putting it back on since I have a 6" lift that could be dangerous.

Personally i wouldnt take it off, just because i would know i could flip a lot easier!

 

With a like a 2.5" lift I would prolly do it but nothing higher. Im just gonna test it out tho since I already have it off and am to lazy to throw it back on today.

 

Those that have removed it, we'd like to know what you think.

 

ive had mine off for a LONG time (pre SAS)...... always seemed fine to me

 

May be a dumb question, but has anyone heard/seen of sway bar dis-connects for 2nd gen Taco's? I know we used to run them on our Jeeps "back in the day"

 

I've been looking for the same thing. Nothing yet. I may need to raid the hardware bin at Lowes for some Grade 8 stuff and fab my own.

 

make sure it doesnt get caught in a cv boot...it wont be fun if it does

 

I love it without my sway bar, I hardly notice any difference in the corners. The suspension reacts much better.
