I tried doing this and my fuel consumption went from 16.5mpg to 18mpg (mixed hwy/city).

What RPM does the auto shift gears at when accelerating normally (stoplight to stoplight, ect)?

I have averaged 18.5 MPG since I bought mine, rural driving, limited
interstate.... for the last 2 tanks, I have tried not to go over 2000 RPM
while accelerating, and mileage has gone to 19.6 MPG... that's the best
I've gotten since buying the truck. Basically gives me a free gallon
    of fuel per fill up.
Next attempt will be hypermiling, where I try to anticipate lights and
avoid coming to a complete stop. I think I can get over 20 MPG.
Not too bad for a V6, auto, 4X4, double cab.
Also almost not worth the trouble. :D
Just want to see if I can hit 20 MPGs

I am already going over 20mpg on the high way and I average 19 to 20mpg on rural roads with a 6spd manual. In just about every vehicle I have driven I have found that If you drive a manual the correct way you can get a better average mileage with a manual trans then the auto version.

When it comes to winter,I rather have a manual.I can regulate my own power on hills or in deep snow when I need it.Summer I just like what power I have off road, pick an choose what I want when.

I had a 2009 6spd manual and the release bearing started to make a sound at around 30k.

in the city perhaps but the auto is geared better for hwy mpg.

If I can remember correctly, 6spd kept at 2k rpm's was just under 60mph.
Auto kept at 2k rpm's is about 67mph.

i have a manual, and to be honest i dont no if they get better gas millage anymore, the salesman told me that these days automatics get better gas millage and there stronger, but thats also a salesman. i got mine in manual because i personally like manual better. i also had a 94 pickup with over 190,000 miles on it and never had a single problem with it at all.

When God invented the internal combustion engine (4000 BC) he intended for it to be driven with a manual transmission. In order to combat the automatics evil, God gives everyone with a manual transmission 30 HP to the wheel and spirit points, making us in general, cooler than other guys (and gals).

Also, the automatic transmission went out on my 2010 Jeep twice in 13,000 miles. I decided if the transmission was going to go out on my next vehicle, it was going to be my fault. Both times it went out, there was an electronic shift error going into third, but that's also Chrysler for you...

Never got into online gaming much. Used to play FPSs but haven't had the will to even turn one on in months. Not sure why. Probably because I work two weeks on, two off, so when I finally get to go home I want to soak up as much stuff outside as I can.

True, I am out of luck when my battery dies. I do, however, have an Optima Red Top, and compact jump box for people who need it. I know how to take a starter apart, CAN make it work. Believe me, I wheel alone and in the middle of Nevada where little to any help is available. Just makes me more resourceful. Otherwise, 4low is nice in auto, as is going up Donner (7227 feet). I can drive as an auto, or shift myself. I've seen upwards of 24mpg. I do realize most have never had to rebuild a starter to get home (Jeep), and less plan for things to go wrong. Thankfully my first vehicle was a POS haha.

On a side note, I am in the middle of replacing the auto in my 1999 Civic sedan aka commuter I bought with a bad trans for 300 bucks. To that end, I paid $180 for a trans off a wrecked car, with 12 month warranty. While I love Honda VTEC engines in manual, one would have cost me 10 times as much.

I can drive anything, Bike to BigRig (part of what I do for a living) - in any transmission made. What does it matter which transmission I choose for my personal vehicle?

Sounds like the super Duty forum, wanna be tractor trailer dudes hating on Tacoma - but I personally do not want a huge truck. Reflects my lifestyle, not how 'big' a man I am. If you drive commercially, the autos are coveted (provided you have them in your fleet)
