Hey guys so while thinking getting an AC sr5 4x4 4cyl I was thinking about waiting till the summer and getting a leftover. I've see certified used ones going for not much cheaper then new ones.

Do these trucks hold their value so well that you might as well just go new?

Yes Tacomas are holding their value very well right now.

Some dealers are selling them for more than the blue book says. You might get a few better discounts for new. But nothing wrong with getting used.

My dad got me my truck 3 years ago for $23,7xx

If you are getting a loan to purchase it, you'll get a much lower interest rate on a new compared to used. Keep this in mind when you calculate the total cost of new vs used including interest costs.

i dunno...02 is arguably the single BEST year of the tacoma line...and surprisingly i have very few dings/blemishes in the paint that a good clay bar/waxing wouldnt take care of...and 1 good detail job on the interior...she would look brand new...my bumpers and sliders could use some paint though

The only problem with waiting for leftovers (good ideea usually) is to then find the one you want. 4cyl 4x4 AC is not easy to find, and if you also want the SR5 package and maybe you have a color prferance, you limit yourself a lot...and honestly crazy deals on even leftovers are wishy washy on a 4 cyl...everybody wants them now. When you go in there at the end and they have 10 of them left, chances are 9 of them will be v6 and those will be your bitching deals. Just saying. (keep in mind too Toyota is the only import that makes a 4cyl 4x4)

I would buy new. You aren't saving as much on the Tacoma by buying used as you might on other vehicles. That's exactly why I did.

this is true...with the 2nd gens...youre not gonna save a ton of money buying used vs new...

if youre sticking to the 05+ then buy it new

^I saw a first gen access cab today that made me want one. I plan on getting either that or probably a regular cab for a "fun" truck at some point.

Personally, I browsed the dealer sites for used ones, but found they were hard to find, and not much cheaper than a new one.

I initially wanted a new Tacoma but then started looking at used ones. I found a few used ones that I liked but in the end I bought new. Used ones with less options and 10k miles were going for about a grand less than what I spent on mine.

There's never been a better time to buy a new Toyota than now.

When i bought my taco, I went in looking for new 08s. This was june of '08 so the '09 was just about to be released. I saw one truck on the internet at this dealer: a used '07 base model 4x4 5speed with 19K miles. I wasn't too interested since it was listed online for $19K. No dealerships around me had any '08s and they all kept telling me I could order one. So I went to this dealer and say the sticker on the '07 to be $21k.

Long story short after I got up to leave they reassessed and accepted my offer of $16.5K. I couldn't be happier with it!

Ya, but the new '08s then were going for $22K so I am very happy with it! Like Joe said, now is a great time to get a new one. My experiences show that!
