trading a tried and true, mostly mechanical and durable 1st gen for an electric driven, plastic 2nd gen?

dont get me wrong, i love 2nd gens and im :jellydance: of their cab space and horsepower (and they look schweet too) but i just think a 1st gen will last a lot longer due to how simple everything is. a computer is going to crap out faster than a ole' pully and cable system.

thats just my $.02. but whats the reason you would want to get a 2nd gen?

ghost man told us that you had a story about how SAF came about, you should tell us

The cab space and access coupled with the availability of a manual transmission. Although, the rarity of a manual dcab with the TRD Offroad package has me considering an automatic.

I am also considering finding a 1st Gen dcab and living with the high mileage. I do have $2k worth of bumpers coming in that I'd like to put to good use.

    I have too many Toyotas...
Everything... and a bag of Cheetos.
Ripcord told me I should register over here so I can get in on this thread, keep up w/trip plans etc... So here I am.

Lifetime NM resident, lifetime Toyota owner.

I've got two 3rd gen 4Runners, and my Wife drives one too. Both of mine have some mods, but my '01 is the real money pit.

I've wheeled all over New Mexico and southern CO, but I haven't taken it out to the Puerco yet because I never have anyone to wheel with. I wouldn't want to get in a "situation" alone out there and have to leave the rig by itself for any period of time.

Ripcord and I have wrenched together and taken the 4Runners out a couple times. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys on trail runs, and I posted some pics of my 4Runners below. I've got a baby on the way in the next few weeks so I probably won't be making it out soon, but I'll keep up w/the thread and hopefully get a few more trips in before the year is over.

Build threads, in case you're interested....

Cool, I pm'd R. on FB, but I didn't hear anything back yet from her. We will be staying at Buffalo thunder resort this time, but we will also be going to the zoo and looking for other stuff to do around ABQ and SF. If you got any ideas for good photography let me know...

I might make it if I can get my diffs in on time. For those who care, I ordered a 4.30 Front rebuilt from ECGS and found a 4.30 Elocker rear diff on Pirate. Gonna be fun!
I had enough saved up for a brand new set of duratracs and then some.. but I kinda need a front diff before I can move again, and who can resist an elocker?

By DANG! I assume you're getting @ the having 3 4Runners part? Yeah, I like 'em. I've been eyeballing 1st gen Tacomas for a looooooooong time, but I'll prob go w/a Tundra when it's time to get a truck.

Went through your build awhile back, btw. You've got a sick setup, and some impressive fab skills. Strong work.

Yeah, I know. I've been over here more often lately checking on your latest mishaps, so I figured I might as well sign up.
