It feels/ sounds like you have been violated. If that was my truck I would get a new one. I feel violated just reading it

While I'm truly sorry for your loss, this gives me an idea... What if one were to install some hideaway police lights that could only be activated by the truck being in drive and with a cell phone call/satellite connection.
That way whoever stole it wouldn't know it's on while they're driving and it makes them easier to find since they're like a f$%^& christmas tree to everyone else including cops.

To turn them on you have to call the number/activate it with some wireless source only you have access to.

Ha, after it got stolen one of my friends texted me his idea. Hook red/blue strobes up to an alarm system. Alarm goes off, "police" lights go off, guys freak out thinking they're stealing an unmarked truck or something.

Probably illegal in 49 states :p

Nope, so here's the story. I'm leaving my house in my rental and I get a call. "This is Phoenix Police Department, we've located your vehicle." So I turn around and get to the address they gave me as fast as I could in rush hour traffic.

Turns out it's only like a block or two from my place. Gave the police a report of what was missing (quite a bit...) and they filed everything and "checked it out" of the system so that it wasn't flagged or anything. Dusted for prints, etc. Told me that they had found it inside a different gated apartment complex when the person who's spot it was in called to have it towed. Police showed up and had it towed to the outside "public" parking area and called me.

Then I had to run home and grab the keys. So I walk back with the keys in hand, get in the truck, and the immobilizer won't disengage. Steering wheel locked, engine won't start. Awesome. Called the roadside assistance to get a tow truck and walked back to my place to grab my rental car.

Tow truck got there about an hour later, winched it up onto the flat bed, took it to the dealership, where I talked to a salesman and told him what's going on, etc. Left it there overnight and filled out all the necessary paperwork to check it in for tomorrow morning.

So, I'm gonna get an update tomorrow morning on what's wrong with it.

I just moved into the area about 2 months ago, so nobody actually knows me... haha. What I can't figure out is how a tweeker got in through the door (there's a minor scratch right by the door latch) and managed to start it, with the immobilizer system or whatever, and then why the immobilizer system was engaged when the cops got there? Seems like it would've been more... beneficial to "immobilize" it in the first place. Anyway it's at the dealership now, so I guess I'll know more tomorrow.

It's just chillin' outside the service bay. I was kinda nervous about leaving it there, considering everything that just happened. They got security cameras and lights all over the place though so I'm hoping nobody is ballsy enough to mess with a truck on a dealer lot :D

I'd get a new truck who knows what they did while joyriding it. These trucks are kinda easy to steal I'm guessing? I need to make a dead switch for mine soo bad.

Yeah exactly :( Next one is going straight off the lot to have a Viper installed. Strongly considering the GPS tracking module.

Speaking of which... anyone know any good audio/alarm shops in Phoenix?

After my old F250 was stolen and recovered i had a Viper alarm installed (can't remember model # but it was one of the top of the line one's) and had all the accessories also. Tilt sensors, Int. motion sensors, battery disconnect alarm & 3 different alarm speakers hidden through out the truck. I also had a Ravelco installed. Out of all those things, the Ravelco to me was the most secure. With the plug out, i knew the truck wasn't going anywhere unless it was towed.

Glad to hear you got your truck back man. My truck was stolen and recovered within a couple hours awhile ago and got it towed to camelback toyota. They're good guys over there, they'll take care of you. They fixed every single thing I pointed out to them no matter how tiny. Good luck on whatever you decide to do next.

That sucks man. I know if I ever have a vehicle stolen, I'd rather it never be found TBH. Just insurance it up and start fresh. GL in whatever action you take man. Those immobilizers are little more than a deterant...
