Same thing happened to me a week ago. Glad you're okay! The truck can be replaced, you can't! Just like others have said, it's a life lesson,

Its a good thing you're ok. It is too bad you had to learn this lesson the hard way; drive for the conditions, not the speed limit.

Worst crash I was ever in was at 40 kph on a straight highway with a limit of 90 with 6 inches of snow. Car ahead of me misjudged the location of the road and did some drift busting and donuts, hit my passenger side front wheel and knocked me right off the road into the ditch. Front end of his car was shredded and leaking coolant. I drove home (after chatting with the cops and getting everything sorted out). Now I think to myself, what might have happened if I was going faster? If I was just going 50 or 60, I might have ROLLED into that ditch.

The speed limit is nothing but a MAXIMUM allowable speed under IDEAL conditions for a common type of car, like a 4-door family car. It is not an indication that you SHOULD be driving that speed, or even that your vehicle is capable of handling that safely. You need to be aware of your vehicle, its limitations, YOUR limitations, the worst thing that could be done by OTHER drivers, how the conditions affect all of those, and set your speed LOWER than the LOWEST safe limit. Whenever in doubt, slow down.

Not only can the weather conditions limit your safe driving speed, but unforeseen circumstances -- oil slick on the road, a tire blowout, a wheel suddenly jumping off, girl in the passenger seat doing something distracting (yeah, I remember what it was like to be 17...).

The most important thing that you should take away from this, is that going a little bit faster just isn't worth it. You might save a few minutes out of a long drive, but you might die next time. Driving fast is also more stressful, so it actually shortens your life, whatever time you save by driving faster, you lose doubly at the other end.

Just so you are aware for the future, you can be ticketed for speed exceeding the conditions, unsafe driving, etc., without ever going over the limit. If you crash, it can be very difficult to defend yourself against this kind of charge. I'm thinking that the cops looked at you and figured "young + important life lesson + truck wrecked = suffered enough".

Good luck with getting a replacement vehicle. Be careful with it when you do.

    good thing your ok.

also i second the comment on driving speed depends on road conditions.

im in sunny san diego. i work up in the mountains east of there and we get snow a few times a year im sure nothing compared to you. but when that snow or any other inclement weather rolls around and causes cars to fly off the road the most common thing that the person in the car says first to me is "i was driving the speed limit".

    ive seen some nasty accidents

its hard not to laugh when they say that and theres snow on the road and they decided to still drive 70 hit a patch of ice and spin out and tell me that they were driving the speed limit.

so OP get your money and replace your baby and slow down if the road is wet and the temp is at or below the freezing point for water.

    Pics of the truck.

I rolled my truck. Come-alongs to pull the cab out. Slightly banged the dents out from the inside to make it look a little normal. Replaced the passenger door and passenger front panel with one from the junk yard. All is not lost.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
This, once you lose traction on a slippery surface there is only so much you can do, most cases your just along for the ride. Glad you are ok OP, you should post pics of your truck.

Man fuck feeling sad shit happens! Dont worry about it! Two stories that I can tell you are :
1 - 11 months after I bought my 2011 tacoma I rear ended someone and had to get it fixed. All it took was being sick that day and getting a nose bleed from coughing and BAM it happened in 2 seconds.
    2. I was travelling 55 kmh in a 60 kmh zone in the winter with my BF all terrains and thought I was ok and then spun the truck sideways twice in about 5 seconds and fish tailed a full 80-90% back and fourth on black ice. It was insane. That taught me to ALWAYS drive with caution no matter what vehicle or tires you have. Nothing makes you invincible
    -
Go grab another Taco and keep on going! Everyone in their life goes through this
