Opinion on green HIDs?

If you wanna get technical,we can,but the general idea is bad light output and eye strain.

I said MOST. MOST/MANY comments are subjectively negative to the color, not performance. 8k HIDs are a big step up from my stock lights nonetheless, I didn't know about the low output in green lights thats why I asked. Yellow is the most irritating and fatiguing color on eyes. North Carolina restrictions on headlights only apply to red and blue. Annoyance from other drivers for having green lights is ridiculous. There's no mistaking it for a service vehicle. Reflector housings directed down enough don't blind/hurt anyone.

I appreciate the information, but didn't ask for negatively aggressive opinions. Don't mean to sound like a dick but theres a difference between giving opinion and being an antagonist.

Opinions? They look horrible, they function worse than stock, and they cost an assload of money.

I've never seen GOOD HID's on a 2G Taco.

 

I have had cheap HIDs in my stock reflector housing. DDM Tuning brand to be exact. I went with a 5,000k colour and I won't beat a dead horse over colour opinion. I'm sure you're aware now.

My personal experience: The cheap HIDs died in less than 1 year of use, and now I am paying again to put in the proper HIDs in proper projector retrofit housings. The light scatter of the stock reflector housing was complete SHIT. There was absolutely no distinguished cutoff line, and even though I took a lot of time aiming them properly, I would still get flashed every now and then. And not just from small cars, but even full size trucks on occasion.

TL;DR - Pay cheap, pay twice. Go with a projector retrofit right from the get go.

 

8000K HIDs just thrown into the stock Tacoma housing is NOT a big step up from stock... It might look like it because it puts a lot of light on the road directly in front of the vehicle but I'd much rather have higher quality halogen bulbs that put light where you actually need it, down the road...

The purples and pinks are going to be your most fatiguing generally. Yellow isn't and can actually be useful in the right applications. There's a reason some vehicles come stock with yellow fogs while none come with blue and purples or pinks.

 

They are HIDeous.

Impractical, illegal, inconsiderate of others, sounds like you're right on track with most of Merica. Keep disregarding everyone and everything as long as you think it looks cool man. You've been told it's illegal, less light output, harmful/dangerous to others and just plain stupid by many who know lighting. Odds are you'll still do whatever you want instead of listening, but whether it was put nicely or not, now you know. Sorry if I sound a bit straight forward but so many people ask what's best then utterly disregard what they're told and do what "looks cool" anyways.

Do a little research on "HID glare". Fucking momo's on the road with their plug and play HID's. Theres a reason highways departments around the world are making aftermarket HID's illegal. And its not just to be assholes.

 

I guess I expected mature opinions.. But I appreciate the info and that's why I'm not going green. I haven't heard of retrofit housing, I'll have to look deeper. The kit I'm looking at says it comes with digitally regulated ballasts? I'm in no way trying to blind others, I've seen that douchebag. And as for the yellow goes, I called my local DMV and that's what I was told. The info I posted is what I learned through years of bio, so unless my professors have been incorrect...

 

Sorry man, you can't always expect a lot of maturity here. But you can get GREAT information. Check out theretrofitsource.com the TRS guys are awesome with customer service and have a quality product in many options for some custom headlights with amazing output.

 

Since you mentioned what your professors taught you, surely you remember ROYGBIV. Red, orange and yellow are easier on the eyes or more noticable to the eyes. Blue, indigo and violets become harder to see and will strain your eyes.

You also have to look at the bulbs themselves. They'll put out the most usable light in the 4300K range. Once you start climbing up the temperature scale, you start to lose usable light.

Lastly, just because HID's create a huge ball of light directly in front of the truck, don't mistake that for usable light. If you stand in front of someone with HID's in a reflector housing, they do seem 'brighter' but it's only because the light is scattered all over the place. If you're ever on a dark highway and come across a high end Lexus, Mercedes or Acura (specifically the LS460, TL, or even the Honda S2000 as all are known to have pretty nice projectors), take notice of the beam pattern they put out. It's very wide, projects out a long ways but has a crisp cut off so as not to blind oncoming traffic. Bulb for bulb, HID's are brighter than halogens but if the light isn't focused where you want it, it will have no benefit and can actually make your lighting situation worse than stock.

 

go for functionality over looks. you don't want to be that douche guy that blinds everyone with bright a** HID's. do it right the first time and you'll never look back.
