I just took some measurements and I could probably do a lot with a 24"x48" sheet, at least as far as replacing the factory skids and that is $151 for a .75" thick sheet. Much cheaper than buying the 2 skids at $150+ each.

 

Yea lots of places sell it. I think i'll stick to steel for now tho..

So I did a little checking around, and called a plastics store here in grand junction, and he was telling me that for skids you want to use uhmd (ultra high molecular density) sheet for skids. He was telling me that is a lot more resilient to abrasions and cracking, it's about $380 for a 3/8" x 48" x 120"

From what he said it is more commonly used for skids than hdpe due to how dense it is.

 

Haven't heard of UHMD, but when I looked into the HDPE I guess it isn't much denser than LDPE (high density vs low density). Something about the way HDPE made it more resistant to cracking or something than LDPE.

 

And on that note, it seems like the uhmd is even more dense and has better wear characteristics. If I could afford it I would go with nylon or delrin sheet. But it's almost triple the cost.

I had never heard of uhmd until I called the plastics expert here in down and he learned me a lesson on trying plastic skids

 

the stuff also makes great body lifts

 

The body lifts I have been looking at are made out of this Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) polyethylene
