I would think you as a Marine, would be one the first ones to lay down your life for any one of our rights.

I just don't understand why you would join the military to defend the rights of all people, your life being the greatest and last thing you could give, and when it comes right down to one of the most primal US rights you take the stance of (Well all of that was just a lot of talk).

I've never been in the military, and I do appreciate the people such as your self that are willing the defend the jerks like me that take it all for granted.

But I would like to think that it is more than just talk should my home, my neighborhood and city are taken by authority to remove one of my rights.

The twist side to this, is who would do the taking of my guns.. it would be the military such as your self.. Now I have to ask my self.. Am I willing to take the life of a fellow American to keep my guns? Some one who has fought for hundreds of years for me to keep them. Possibly my neighbor my brother, my mother.

The only answer I have is your damn right I'm willing.

you do realize that the top 1% (in terms of income) account for almost 40% of the total income taxes collected by the federal gov't and the top 5% account for a hair under 60% right?

So your saying the top 6% (in terms of income) pay 100% of the total income tax?... Or you are saying the top 5% (in terms of income) pay 60% of the total income tax? it is hard to tell. I'm guessing the later.

I'm saying that a guy that makes 2+ million a year that pays 2% of his total income $40,000 to income tax.

Where a guy that makes 40k a year has to pay 22% $8,800. This guy pays way less in taxes yes. But he had to give up more of his over all income.

If the top 1% gave up 10 or 12% they guy that makes 40k a year could retain more of his base income.

So I'm saying the top 5% should pay 90% of the total income tax. They can afford it.

I'm not being facetious here, I'm just not sure what this has to do with my post.

Whether I would put my life on the line for people is not in question. That being said, I do stand for our freedoms and believe in the same ones you do. I was simply stating that, when faced with a greater force at the front door, most people who say they are tough and would shoot back are all talk. I do clarify most because I know some of you crazy bastards would definitely go down shooting. The reason I said, "as a Marine" is because I feel like a lot, not all, but a lot of men talk often about what they "would" do when facing death and gunfire, but most would act much differently then they realize. Simply noting the difference between tough talk and actual actions, not questioning our rights to bear arms man.

my other point was simply that the wisest man often prevails rather than he who is the most obnoxious. Would it be wise to get shot up and lose everything, or realize that you stand no chance against an army at your door and live to fight (and acquire guns) another day? You're no good to anyone dead, play it smart.

My allegiance is not in question. I simply raise these thoughts in order to point out my "opinion" on a "hypothetical" scenario (on the internet).

I was just emphasizing the reason I would never relinquish my weapons. I would not fight because I just want to keep my guns but I would fight to destroy a tyrannical govt that overstepped their bounds.

This is why I avoid the police at the best of times... I'm a law abiding citizen and have never gotten so much as a speeding ticket, but many cops are assholes when everything is SOP let alone when they are scared.

Many modern police officers (in my limited experience) have almost no concept of "reasonable restraint" and "escalation of force". Pointing your weapon at someone who is calm and not posing a threat is a good way to get someone killed. (possibly yourself) If you can't keep your cool when no one is acting threatening then you need to look for a new line of work.

there's several ways they "get" your guns:

    1) katrina-style unconstitutional gun grab (i.e. see rmodel's vid above, and yes everyone should watch it...)
    2) compensated confiscation - i.e. "gun buyback" = wasting taxpayer dollars to reimburse old ladys who want to get rid of crappy guns leftover from their husbands...
    3) frank lautenburg "amendment" - i.e. alleged misdemeanor domestic violence, no "due process"... got a bitchy spouse who wants to "set you up"? frank lautenburg likes that...
    4) search and seizure - similar to katrina-style, in that they make it damn near impossible to get your confiscated property back...

Luckily in CA we have a Katrina law that says they can't confiscate guns, but I doubt that would stop them. One of the officers who attacked the old lady was a CHP.

total bullshit that an officer can confiscate your weapons for whatever reason he can come up with, regardless of law. Then they make it all but impossible to get them back.

yep, after bobby jindahl was elected in LA, the NRA worked w/ him and the legislature to get a katrina law passed as well...

as for the "cops" who did that - they are jack-booted thugs...

Does this thread really exist? What kind of stupid f%cking question is this? That's just like asking, would you give up your kids or life. You've never lived in the city apparently, and in todays society, my gun is my best friend :D

This happened to my buddy two nights ago, he has a concealed permit and got pulled over for not turning his lights on( everyones done it). While searching for his ID his concealed permit came out and the cop freaked out and pulled a gun when my friend said he was carrying. The cop proceeded to take the gun for the remainder of the stop, which I can understand but to pull a gun when he learn my buddy was carrying is way out of line.
