Lol, sorry - barring an eye condition, there's no need for 5%. Actually, we all like to support the setups we have, so I'll reword my post to say I have 15% Llumar tint and love the tint I got for the price I paid. I do worry about cops when I see them, but at this point I've had no hassle from them even thought the legal max (min) here is 35%.

Yep, 15% llumar is what I have. I'm glad at least our local township cops could give a shit. Since here in PA essentially anything on front windows is illegal. I've had our cops next to me at traffic lights tons of times in the last 3 years and never had an issue so far, knock on wood.

Well I've been driving with the windshield tinted at 5% for the last 13+ yrs so I guess my eyes have been adjusted. If I drive my gf's IS250 with the untinted windshield I'll be squinting a lot even with sunglasses on.

5% is illegal in SC. Be prepared to cough up a good excuse to the police should you ever get pulled by them. I have 35% on mine which is the max in SC

Although I wouldn't stop you just for your tint in SC, I know a few that will, especially in smaller towns. However, if on a stop, depending on your attitude, determines how many violations get written. Quit a few jurisdictions are getting/have tint meters. As for windshields, keep it close to the AS1 line, whole window tint will surely get you a citation. 20% on front sides, 5% strip on windshield is what I did as soon as mine left the dealer 2 weeks ago. Technically not legal here in SC, but does not draw attention. To many other fools out there to worry about while on patrol...

Something I haven't hear mentioned is. All imperfections in the glass at 5% shows. I had 5% on my chrysler 300 and i started to get light water etchings in my glass but with 5% behind it they showed bad. 10% they were hardly noticeable

I had 5% on all the back windows in my pre-tacoma vehicle. It was cool  Today I care more about safety, so what I did with the taco was 35% on the front and 59% in the rear.

The TRD factory smoked (dark gray) back glass in the Tacoma has 80% tint from factory.

I'd stick with whatever is legal, or 1 step darker if you want to 'risk it'.
It's not worth the hassel, Iused to do limo tint on everything and it just became a pain the ass dealing with getting stopped.

What I don't understand is that I have always been given the officer safety lecture when I ask why is it illegal. They want to be able to see the driver. But I can have an Excursion with 500 heavily armed homies in the back and those windows are fine to be dark as hell.

Just doesn't make sense to me personally, especially when I get pulled over car is off, wheel to curb, all windows and sunroof/t-tops open, dome lights on and hands crossed on the top of the steering wheel.

I don't like any tint, I wish i could remove the stock tint. Dark tint looks ghetto.

Officer safety is one reason, but driver safety is the main reason. Not being able to see someone on the road at night and causing a wreck is never a good thing. Just saying :(.
