Haha.. Yeah I've been thinking of getting a good power buffer sometime. I will try it then. Show some pics when you get it completely gone!

I have a question. I love getting my taco and jeep muddy. However, the whole engine compartment is completely covered in a thick layer of mud and I would love to clean it but I have no idea on how to approach this. I have been told to get it steam cleaned but that seems expensive knowing I will get it dirty again next time I go wheeling.:notsure:

here are my questlions. thanks for your time.

how do you avoid getting the wax on the trim/plastic/rubber stuff?

how do you get the plastics/rubber back to black after wax has dried onto them?

what do you use to remove wax residue from the little crevices? I.e. the edge of the rubber that meets the surface of glass.

any and all tips, techniques will be appreciated.

    thanks,

    dan

I like the Frogtape yellow painters tape over the blue painters tape due to the lower glue residue when the tape is remobed.

To remove the wax on the rubber use a window cleaner and a soft cloth. I also would recommend 303 Aerospace Protectant for the rubber trim. It works well on bed covers as well.

How about cleaning light hazing/scratching on glass? My windshield wiper blade popped out of its holder and the metal "hook" on the wiper arm caused some very light scratching on windshield in one part of the arc, and it's kinda driving me nuts. It's almost like a haze, but it's right in my line-of-sight so I notice it all the time.

So...does using tire shines mess up the rubber compound of the tire? The tires on my rv say not to use anything at all on the tires due to breaking down the chemicals in the rubber & causing shorter life.

not 100% on this, but I'd imagine so. I don't use it just because rubber+chemicals=bad in my opinion.

Silicone based tire shines will break down rubber. Water based tires shines and products like 303 aerospace protectant contain uv inhibitors and keep the rubber supple.

Any marine store should carry it. If you don't have any around, most of the online detail supply websites carry it. Autogeek.com, detailedimage.com, etc.

Wash, clay polish, wax it the order. You had it correct,
If you are doing it by hand I would suggest Mothers products as the solution. Use a foam applicator for the wax and soft terry cloth towels to buff.

    https://store.mothers.com/product_info.php?products_id=59&cPath=5

    https://store.mothers.com/product_info.php?products_id=148

Total cost should be around $75 including the towels. Try to find the products on sale.

Looking into purchasing a Porter Cable 7424 XP with Meguiars 105 and 205 polishes to uses on my personal vehicles. I have no experience using a machine buffer. But after some research it seems this is the best for a newbie. I will use the Klasse brothers to wax and seal after I polish. I am curious as to which color of pads to purchase and what size to choose? Do you have any recommendations as to which direction to go? Both vehicles are white in color if that matters.
