Since my turbo is journal bearing, I didn't have to run any water lines.

As for the oil line, here is the where the return line goes back into the block.

    IMAG0822_4229d5639f48f9700fb58a8d3873b79b177a7c8b.jpg

That is the inspection cover on the timing cover. On the passenger side. It is a -10AN return line.

Let me look for the feed line location.

Sorry about the delay. These aren't the most helpful pictures, as far as where the lines are coming from, but at least they are something cool to look at.

This is off of Toon's truck. 2012-01-20151341_94531f7f20d77f3f3dad39c860267e628f932e72.jpg

    2012-01-20151411_f85611b3e8762548fe1e83eadfe66e1ecccd30e9.jpg

Since his truck has the OEM Oil cooler, the lines that were used to feed that, were then used to cool the turbo as well. Basically just added it in series with the cooler.

This picture will let you see the lines that go to the OEM oil cooler, that I was referring to, if you don't have it.

    IMAG1131_d16992fc6e3bb4e708fc38044982b0d24055adef.jpg

Where the top hose comes out of that head unit, to the port on the Oil cooler closest to the engine, and then the return on the bottom, there is a marking for where they need to be drilled out, if the truck came without an OEM oil cooler. It is a circle, in each location of where they would be.

In this picture, you can see where the oil feed source is for the turbo.

    IMAG1152_4a8efab2e1ca9904dd5b467ee1ca43457e480a57.jpg

Don't mind that piece in the radiator hose. It was from a failed experiment.

Here is another older pic for additional reference.

Right next to the oil filter, underneath the Oil sensor.

More mods to come, thinking a 6 inch lift and arb bumper etc etc.
i have laughed so hard i almost cryed because i have been exactly where you are with different builds and seriously im still reading through this build. all i have to say is that after much conisderation im going to build this tacoma into what you have perfected. so i may end up asking alot of questions to you if thats okay. i thought to myself whether or not i wanted to sell my truck and move to a diesel. the answer after reading this build is NO. im going to get the diesel to tow the taco on a nice goosneck trailer. and im building this truck from the ground up the way i always wanted to and trailer it when it needs it ( wheel wrench repeat ) i break stuff hence the trailer. however i will not be making a trailer queen imma drive the crap out of the tacoma. the only problem i have had thus far really just running a cia and exhaust etc etc is after my dufus of a friend wrecked my clutch on a third gear pull leaving the flywheel even screwed up... i was pissed but hes a good friend and he actually paid for me to get another clutch which we put in and etc there were some fun problems just like the Throw out bearing... which i just replaced with stock or now. however i moved ot a centerforce dual friction clutch.... for a nice stock feel ... maybe a little grabbyier but it runs really really good... only thing i have noticed is a bit more noise when idiling with the clutch out ... ( neutral ) and seriously am impressed with the $600 clutch. that comes with a brilliant nice new pressure plate aswell. so thumbs up for that clutch being a bit better than stock and miles cheaper. but im going to start my parts list and start this build however two things need to happen first. 1 being my shop build..... and 2 getting myself the diesel so i can have the truck down ... i am looking to build the truck from beginning to almost end and work the kinks out after its all together. so a full on build. going to be impressive.

thanks for the awesome thread and i am now subscribed i will keep in contact with you and i may actually at some point call you and talk on the phone about a few things if you dont mind because i have a few questions from my knowledge about a couple things in your build. let me know

again you have one bad ass truck ( my truck pics are super old i need to put some new ones up but i will get around to it when i can )

    cheers BENJAMIN THE BULL

Thank you for the compliments on being a bit of an inspiration. Those factory clutches from '08-10 or '11 were just weak and junk. They changed from the LUK brand to the Aisin brand and kept having a problem where he hub would shear from the disk. Not good. So at least now you have one necessary mod done.

Thank-you kindly. It also reminds me that this thread is in desperate need of updating.

Being that you are doing a "full fledged build", that will be the first component to avoid. It doesn't have safety features to prevent engine damage, and it isn't very indepth, as far as tuning capability. That being said, you have some options.

Currently, since you have an '09+ you are kind of stuck to wire in units, since we said not to go with Unichip. www.Dezod.com has a wire in for '09+. But they are still working on a few bugs for the '09+. They have it worked out for the '05-08.

www.urdusa.com has the UCON, but it is only plug n play for the '05-08. However, they have plans to have a plug n play available for the '09+ soon.

Then you have what I am running. The ProEFI standalone. www.ProEFI.com I am using the Pro128, and my friend Toon714 is using the Pro48. He is the first Tacoma to be using the Pro48 standalone, and successfully. It works beautifully. ProEFI is also about to have plug n play harnesses available for the '09+ model, since it uses the same plugs and the Lexus ISF.

Those should be the ECUs which you look into. Next, is to figure out which direction of the build do you want for performance?

Correct. Forgot about that one. That is what was used to tune the 600+ whp, twin turbo XRunner which was built by PSI Racing.

For that matter, at the time Haltech didn't have a universal EMS which could control drive by wire. Only EMS' that were vehicle specific could. That is why I chose the ProEFI.

Not sure if Haltech released a Universal one which can control drive by wire yet?

Yes i would be doing the full fledged build as a front mount like yourself. however i was keen on the unichip just for the day to day. Just for the intake and exhaust im running as well as tire size etc and you can keep an idea on the stuff going on with the flux monitor off unichip's website plugged into your obd II of course with the unichip in aswell. but what gets me is the regular price vs. buying this used one and then buying the flux monitor. or am i just simply wasting my time with it and should say my $500 for other things. I am also curious with how far this whole set up has set you back ? ( not the sts kit ... sounds like f#@$ garbage. good to know!! ) maybe send me a PM and we can chit chat back and forth as i dont want to clog your awesome build up. and currently i am out working in Ontario but i have plans like i said to possible buy a nice goosneck and maybe my bosses or a nice diesel. At this point i would be up to driving down to texas and seeing your truck etc and for the hell of it bring mine ( once i work out the kinks and start building it like yours. ) however where i fall short hugely is the tuning side of things.... and that is where i will be asking some questions amongst other questions. i know there are places in calgary but i feel that they would litterally bend me over without lube and use sandpaper.... damn. Whether or not they would tune it properly is another question...

In my head the ideal thing to do is build the basics and build it properly come done and get it tuned etc and see what happens.

im not sure about the unichip and thats how i ended up here and after seeing your truck it motivated me. but what is itching around in the back of my SkuLL is whether or not it is worth it for the $$$ Benjamins $$$ to actually to this set up.

Your an absolute pioneer you and your friends have come a long way building these motors. after reading about your block being send out so that they could make sleeves for the tacoma i was absouletly amazed .... your doing all of the aftermarket need for speed guru owners of tacomas a huge favor ... so THANKS.

My biggest question is if you had to do it again would you not try and pack a V8 in this truck? i havent looked in some time but on here there was a guy with an absolute sick tacoma called the beast. and he was considering swaping the 4.7L v8 in i should see if he did. however i was thinking something with a bit more jam than the 4.7 ... would be interesting to see how the LSX 454 stacks up if i could fit it in...

but then all the drivetrain would go boom.

As for lowering the tacoma... im sitting about 3 inch lift now. and i still think its way way to low to the ground. i wouldn't follow you in making it a low riding AWD but i absolutley think its bad ass. i do however want to make some traction bars if i start making the power your making... some of the videos with the axle wrap were scary... and ill be the first to say axle wrap sucks ive blown up many things doing that...

anyways i need to get back to work hahah so keep me informed as i am watching everyday or two.

And again unichip yes or no? just for what i have now ( intake exhaust ) and i would consider the flux monitor to keep track of a few things.

Where can i get that carbon fiber hood scoop hood aswell.... i got some wicked hail damage on my taco ... hence why i may build this thing to the tits and let r rip... the worst is the roof... but a nice flat black roof rack will fix that. how did you like the procomp 6 ? i want to get the pro comp 6 stage 2 maybe ?

Thank you for the compliments again Skull. Trust me though, heading into uncharted territory before most, is not cheap, and has plenty of heart ache. I don't consider myself a pioneer though. Just a guy who see a lack of a solution to a problem at hand. Then tries to find a way to fix it. For the community.

Unless you absolutely have to have the Unichip, save the cash. Once you buy it, it isn't properly tuned, so then that is again, more cash. For a meh standard piggyback. Save all of that for a better unit down the line.

My hood is a VIS Racing hood. You can get it though them, or one of their vendors. There is also Hanniman(?) I believe. Fiberglass hoods. Saw it in Blackhawk's build, so he or someone else would hsve better info on that.

Lastly, start a build thread already. Post up some pics, and we can go over all of your craziest ideas. Let's get your build built. ;)

CAI, dynomax turbo exhaust system, tinted windows medium on the fronts to match the backs, hid kit hi and low beam, pop and lock tailgate, painted calipers red with caliper paint, put 2.25' leveling kit in front and a 1" block in the rear. its now level and rides WAY better (readylift)>way nicer than the revtek my buddy has i think its garbage imo<, hurst "T" shifter, 18 x 10 american racing (can't remember the name) chrome rims with badass 5 inch lip :), 12 inch rockford fosgate punch with rockford fosgate 600 watt amp, bushwacker fender flares (cheaper than replacing the one i wrecked lol) ,kc light bar with kc lights, toyota aluminum stamped skid plate, and a skull front license plate. More mods to come, thinking a 6 inch lift and arb bumper etc etc.
Its Benjamin By the way. And yeah i should start one but im merely embarrased because i haven't done very much. Besides cold air intake exhaust rims fender flares etc etc .... but its int he works. again i need to go and get the shop and stuff first and buy my diesel. its in the works and i will start buying parts but i defiantely will look into the carbon fiber hood as my truck suffered some wicked hail damage. and did not get a write off..... it should have... stuipid insurance companies either wanted to skim coat the roof with bondo .... or wanted to cut the roof out and re-weld a new on in.... fail. so i took the money and honestly the roof is the worst of it... and well, i basically dont care as for the hood it was a writeoff and still is hence i want the carbon fiber one. and the roof well it will be covered up with a roof rack of some sort to hold all me tools and such. i was considering doing a tailgate mod to something of the sort of the baja looking tailgates but i would have to move my wicked awesome stock overpriced back up camera ... as i really enjoy that feature backing up to trailers and shit...... ( besides that fact it saved a kids life the 3rd day i owned the truck!!!!) so i want it left.... there is alot of work in building into the aftermarket but that DOES NOT scare me.... i may have some questions though.

but im not tearing my truck apart until i got the diesel. then i can do whatever i want.

^^^ For a fiberglass hood. Very reasonably priced as well.

Take your time and make a good plan of attack, for your build. It will save you time and money in the end. And hopefully turn out right the first time. ;)

In continuing with the time-line from here on page 19 http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-builds/203482-torspd-nevr-19.html

I had the engine swapped out by the 21st of Oct. 2011. 12 quarts of oil and a new starter, it was ready to go.

I ran the first 6 quarts only for about 100 miles since the used engine had such bad build-up. Then swapped out to the next six quarts.

The starter had to be replaced due to to much wet silt/mud getting inside and messing up the connections for the brushes. During my days off-roading mudding. I had that problem for quite a while, and it was well past due for new one.

As for the engine performance, it ran, but kept giving me check engine lights, and putting the truck into limp mode. That problem would later on get corrected, and will bring that up in a little while.

In the mean time, since the turbo was off of the truck, I had the perfect opportunity to finish up on some punch list stuff that I had wanted to do earlier.

Such as ceramic coating the exhaust components.

    IMAG1272_5f2659336472366b767cddf0d42e2861dc4c529d.jpg

Went with the black ceramic coating offered by Polydyn,www.polydyn.com, here in Houston. The tout it as their strongest and most durable coating.

To complement that part and aid in extra cooling, some of this was ordered to help things out.

All wrapped up, this is how it tuned out.

I took special care to make sure that there was a half overlap in the wraps. Makes it go through very quickly though.......

    That was November 8, 2011.

A couple of weeks prior, a friend of mine helped take some pictures of my truck. All I have to say is MAD PROPS to Matt. He has one hell of an eye for photography.

This is how his art work turned out.

The man does amazing photography I must say. He has actually taken pictures of a few of my friends' trucks, as well as a ton of other things. They all turn out very impressive.

After that, then next big thing to happen was that I found a T56 transmission finally. One that was built, and also for an Awesome price! It was a Rockland Standard Gear, www.rsgear.com, Tranzilla built T56. I had approximately 500 miles on it and was in storage for about 5 years, since there was some fallout on a build. So I became the lucky purchaser. Woot! Got it for a steal of a deal at $1800 compared to the normal $3400 +$500 core. That was in the first week of December '11.

Interestingly, the clutch disk for the '98-02 V8 Camaro, is the same as for the '05+ Tacoma. Minus the hubs having different splines.
