how to remove scratch on the dash board

Hello guys my cat had make some ugliy scratch on my dash board it is not very very scratching but we can see it
Do you think i can remove them of something?

 

about all i can think to do is go over the area with some plastic polish and then use a good interior cleaner on it. interior scratches are pretty hard to get rid of unless they are pretty minor.

Good luck fixing your dash-I've never had any luck getting them out.

I read a post on here awhile ago about using a lighter to heat it up lightly and dab it with your finger. But don't quote me on it. I'm yet to do it.

I could see that maybe working but... also see it just making more of a disaster. If you try it'd I'd suggest taking a door panel off or something, scratch the back of it, and test it there first for some practice. Probably I'd use a scraper or something other than a finger that could leave prints embedded and oily residue.

Also depending where the scratch is at, I wouldn't throw an open flame anywhere near the airbag... you know just in case.

 

Plastic does have a tendency to return to it's original shape/position when heated...but I just don't see flame + dashboard going well...A heat gun would be a little more comfortable for me to try- but even that would make me nervous.....

 

On the lines of what Brunes suggested, I have used a hair dryer successfully with scratches. Carefully heating it up & using something for a filler like a color matched crayon. It just cannot be very large, deep gouges. Worked great on fine ones I had. Take your time & work slow.

I got some ideas from this thread and thought I would post back for the possible benefit of the community.

my scenario included a number of easily noticeable scratches in the grey plastic beneath the radio and AC controls as well as one deep scratch in the silver trim area around the AC vent (like a dumb@** I put these there myself installing the Grom iPod/USB accessory).

grey plastic beneath the radio and AC controls:

carefully buffed out the scratches starting with 220 sandpaper, then 300, then 600. I went ahead and sanded an area larger then the scratches (2.5"x4") to make it look more even. once this was done, the plastic is fairly smooth, but much lighter in terms of color than the rest of the console area. cleaned the area with light soap and water and allowed to dry. masked off the entire portion of the console area (not just the part I sanded) with thick masking tape and then applied 2-3 coats of "Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Satin Clear 249845" found at the local Ace hardware.

the results were good. there is a natural texture to the console and dash plastic, so the area that I sanded is slightly smoother than the rest of that console. moreover, the satin clear coat is slightly glossier. bottom line, if somebody didn't point it out to you, you would never notice any work had been done.

silver trim area around the AC vent:

buffed out the offending scratch using the same sandpaper grades. keep the sanded area small this time. masked off the adjacent dash areas. applied VERY light coats of "Dupli-Color Bumper Coating FB108 MED SILVER". Make sure you have really masked off the rest of the dash well, and hold the can way back to ensure a very light coat, otherwise it will run or crackle. Let it dry, then repeat.

results were excellent. looks like new.

it was a lot of work for a couple of scratches, but I suppose I learned something in the process. I hope this helps somebody else.
