2012 12v WIRE

Post a pic of your light switch wire set up, will help us determine whats going wrong.

What blank slot did you plug it into? Some of them might not have power running to them if you don't have certain features.

Thanks for all the help TW. Here is a pic of the switch as is. Sorry for the pic quality. In the pic the switch is off. Top prong (if on is facing up) is ground. Middle prong wire goes to lightbar and has 10amp fuse in the wire. Bottom prong wire goes to fuse box tap. I didn't want to try any hot fuses before I figure this out. If I wanted to run on just an empty slot, what would my add-a-circuit fuse config. be?

 

all of the blank spots just have ( / ) according to the coin holder. So will I just have to use a hot one?

 

Check them with a Multi-meter or a test light.

Some of them will only be hot if the car is on, so make sure you test with both the car on and off.

 

Seems right to me. Where is your ground wire going to?

 

decided to stop for the night but either I have no connections to blanks or my light isn't working either way I took a look at the ACC fuse and is the kind of fuse that doesn't fit into my add-a-circuit. Going to autozone tomorrow after I triple check everything. Thanks a lot for your help!

 

ground is going to the ground on the bottom left of the dash near the air con controls

 

I know this may sound dumb, but do you have a ground coming from your lightbar to the switch then to a ground point, or does it go directly from the lightbar to a grounding point?

 

light bar has a direct ground at the front of the truck

 

First of all - read your documentation - what is the current draw needed to light up the LEDs?

Remember that if you blow the fuse that is in the dash you may take out various OTHER accessories - some of which may be needed.

Troubleshooting - Process of elimination

If you wire them directly to the battery do they light up? Meaning remove the switch completely for now. Run a wire from the + and - terminals of the battery directly to the light (keep a fuse in line please) you can add a single throw switch in the circuit if you like. If the lamp lights than the basic wiring & the light are good.

Next - get a multimeter - you can pick one up for < $10 at Harbor Freight - and check the Add A Circuit for voltage.

Also make sure the add a circuit fuse is not blown

I guess I'm missing something, cause if your grounded and you have a 12v supply of power then the light should come on.
Next time your out there, take the light switch out of the equation and connect the led bar directly to the fuse tap. If it comes on then the issue is with the light switch.

 

if he's using a blank spot in the fuse box, there wouldn't be any power there...would there?? The blank should be 0V because it's for an accessory that he doesn't have on his truck

 

There are blank spots both under the dash and the underhood box that have constant or switched power on the supply side, but no connection on the circuit side.
In those cases, the add-a-circuit would still provide power.
