Same as the Tacoma. 2.57:1. The twin stick doesn't mean double transfer case.

Right,...There are two options. One is the FJ Tcase alone which does not change the ratios. It does allow you to access low range in 2wd though. The other is combining an FJ case with a Marlin crawler box. That is what Wicked07 did. The crawl box gives you the compound low, if that is what you want.

Thats correct. Stock low is 41:1 on my car, when in compound low its 193:1 - like watching paint dry. This crawl box is the best thing i've done to any rig i've owned.

Old video before I had 35's but after installing:

Thx for that, I thought part of him rebuilding the case was altering the ratio. Still a very good mod

Since the new boxes are chain driven vs gear, there are no options to re-gear the box itself that's why adding the marlin is a good solution

Of course Shemp will chime in on how it's not impossible and give us a dissertation on why/how he thinks it can be done...

It's good to have assumptions or beliefs challenged from time to time. It forces you to clearly understand them, so you can argue them. Sometime you only realize your beliefs are not supportable when they are challenged, and you have to rethink. That's how smart people get smarter. Whether you like Shemp or not, his assertions brought a lot of good information into the discussion. By debating what was wrong with his arguments, we confirmed what was right with ours, and who knows?,... it could have gone the other way. I have seen one person stand up to 20 and prove them all wrong. My guess is that Wyatt's mods had their nay sayers as well, and he did in fact have a learning curve to make it happen.

You have got to be kidding me!!!

Do you not know anything about the forces that are applied to these shafts and why Toyota used polished harden steel on those shafts?

The costs to machine one of those shafts to work would cost more than it would to do the swap yourself.

Not to mention the fact that the stationary shaft is stationary for a reason. It's there to help stabelize the forks and to allow a point of support for the motor to work against. Remove that support and you'll move the levers once and won't be able to move them again. Also, when you remove that point and try to go into 4wd, the lever will move BOTH shafts and cause the small keys to fall out that help the 2wd/4wd synchros to operate. That would render your VERY expensive T case a piece of junk.

Small key. there are three of them. You don't want to loose these.

Synchro's. Allows you to shift from 2wd to 4wd while on the fly. Try that with a system designed to shift in one fashion or direction and take the stabelizing point out of it. Thats a recipe for disaster.
    DSC00201640x480_1ab9fdcbabbead283d6f678caa3f2b1d11e79d70.jpg

So lets get to the point of trying to shift these two shafts seperately from each other.

IF you could get this built and I doubt it, you'd be able to shift this case from 2wd to 4wd and if you held both handles while doing it you could get it into 4lo. However, if you were to try and shift in 2wd lo, there isn't enough room to pull that fork back without the 4wd fork moving first. The size of those forks requires you to be in 4wd first before you go into lo. Again, you could change the design and have some one build you a fork that would work but now you just paid for three t case's with the machining cost of that piece of hardware.

No room to slide back and engage lo with out the 4wd shift fork moving back first. But hey, try it....;)

Oh yeah.... the ball and spring..... Where would you put it???

In this case I'm going to say it IS INDEED impossible to take this Toyota designed case and twin stick it in such a manner as to use it like the FJ Case. But please....Prove me wrong.

No need to look at just the FJ case. remeberm TOYOTA sells trucks all over the world and the "FJ Case" is really just a manual case that is found in the Hilux, Prado's, Landcruisers, and a bunch of other trucks as well. Not to mention they are in other makers vehicles as well.

I'm not worried about those going anywhere. Oh... and they are in some of the new 4Runners as well.:D
