I believe I've been to that hill before.

So Kevin just hit it fast as hell and snapped the shock? Wow...

That "hill" is not exactly the most accessible place in NJ too...
I was shotgun with Boyd when he tweaked his alignment pretty good on that IIR.
Fortunate that you were able to get him back on the road!

    That'll buff out.

If you guys are ever in a really serious jam feel free to text my cell. I'm pretty sure Boyd still has my number.

Providing I'm not in the middle of my own stupidity, I can generally get anywhere you can, trailer in tow, and haul your ass out. I've got a winch mount on the front of the trailer if you hydrolock or do something equally derptastic. Just make sure to get it on video when it happens.

Keep at least 1 complete tie-rod assembly in your trucks as they bend easy and swap out even easier. That broken coilover could possibly have been driven slowly while riding on the bumpstop, although the terrain would have made it near impossible in this case. Also, at least 1 person should bring a spare belt as that's an easy fix that can easily break. I've kept my old one for trail repairs.

Anyway, I'm only a few hours away from most places. If you're completely stuck and really out of options, get in touch with me. I'm more than happy to help out. And laugh at you.

Thanks for the offer. Who knows, with my luck, I may one day take you up on it

Gunna take your advice on the tie rod assembly and belt. Been carrying a spare cv axle for awhile, but clearly that ain't enough. Probably gunna buy a set of stock struts to carry as well now.

And now I have to add cv axle to the list if items, as my back-up just got called up to 1st string

Inner and outer tie rod ends for under $40 at RockAuto.com. That inner piece that's bent in the pic, complete with the end joint that screws into the steering rack, is $19.

Where are you getting your prices from?

rock auto lists outer and inners for "4WD/SR5/Base" and outer and inners for "X-Runner"

    is there really a difference?

Moog parts all have "x-runner" description... I've never heard of the other brands...

So Kevin lost a shock and tie rods the guys I was out with broke

    4Runner: CV
    XJ: rear DS flange
    Wrangler: rear DS U joint
85' Toyota: Flopped & rear axle go boom
87' Chevy: trans fluid on header = fire (hood wouldn't open)

Sounds like the first Sunday wheeling in the cold and wet was a disaster. Maybe now Eddie can see why I no like Sunday wheeling..........

truck owner: "why my jeep no move"

me: " I see your axle flopping around"
