Rob - nice looking gun! I always love the dissipator look and I think it's a highly functional setup for irons. Any trouble with the surefire mag? I've heard some pretty bad reviews.

Magpul just released a proprietary 6.8 magazine for a proprietary magwell dimension so that solves that problem. The reason why the 6.8 is so popular as a hunting round is the same reason why its so popular as a military cartridge. It expands and yaws really well on skinny targets. As far as .300Blk, the magazine thing is the only thing it has going for it in my opinion. If I was looking for another caliber for my AR I would go for 6.8 SBR or an AR-10. Nice rifle by the way.

when are these 6.8 proprietary lowers going to be available? and can we expect AR10 prices for lowers :(? I have a blank upper/lower set that I was all ready to build a 6.8 SPR until I heard about this whole "proprietary 6.8 lower" stuff.....i don't want to wait forever and if magpul is involved, then we can expect them.....spring 2017.

How is there a magazine issue? Asc, Barrett, pri (expensive but worth the longer coal allowance for hand loaders), c-prod. Just no polys unless you go with the new six8 larceny proprietary which I'm sure people will but like you said that's chasing unnecessary upgrades. You have a lot of misconceptions regarding the 68. As for why over the 308 it's lighter to carry around and cheaper and has killed everything DRT I've shot with it.

Electric carving knifes for roasts works great too.

LWRCI who did all the R&D for the new mag well dimensions and worked with Magpul on the new magazine said the new 6.8 architecture will be released in December. They also got ATK on board as a supplier for the 6.8 too, so the price of 6.8 ammo should drop well below that of .300blk too. This will probably be my next SBR. They made the magwell dimensions open source for anyone who wants it and supposedly two other rifle companies have already jumped on board.

Evidently with the current magwell dimensions and current magazines the bullets have trouble rolling in the mags and the OAL is limited too. The new magwell dimensions give added reliability and allow bullet manufacturers a little leeway with bullet design since the new magwell gives a bit of room for longer COAL. With Magpul on board there should be a constant source for decent priced magazines. Initial pricing is the same as emags supposedly. Here is a picture of their 6.8 UICW lower. Yes that is an absolutely true ambi lower. The paddle is both a bolt catch and release.

There are no issues with the mags I stated above. Yes there are other companies out there with crap mags but thats true in any caliber. Except the limit length to standard saami length. The c-prod defense mags and pri allow for 2.30 coal which only benefits the hand loaders. The new Msgpul mags from my understanding will offer the same length as saami no more. The larger maxwell only allows the use of the thicker poly needed to keep from mag bulging. However a metal mag would allow even longer loads. Many people use saami length factory ammo from vendors like Hornady and ssa for hunting with great success.

Only the LWRC and Magpul combo version are proprietary not all the other 6.8 stuff.

Super easy actually - get yourself a badge, walk down to your local enlistment center, or become a Class III FFL.

    It's easy as:

    A) Get an FFL and pay SOT.

    B) Convince local qualifying agencies to "demo" various firearms.

    C) Keep up FFL and SOT.

If you get a 07 FFL you can drill your own happy hole in ARs. (with SOT.) But you may run into ITAR requirements.
