I have always been good with money. I save. But i also have worked hard at establishing good credit. I think I'm up to like 760. Im 21. Ill take it! lol. But I dont own mine yet. I just bought my 08 in December and I still owe 15k. payments are 290 a month. I do sometimes feel bad because like you and other people will say....it took a while to get what you have. I appreaciate what I have though. I work hard too. So I feel I deserve it a little. I'm a mechanical engineering major and I work in construction. Also, since I was 18 I have made it a goal to never take money from anyone including my parents and I have been successful so far. I like to earn my keep. Sorry for blabbering on.....

Most of these "teens with tacomas" fall into 2 catagories:

    - Mom and Dad pay
    or
    - they are already living beyond their means and are deep in debt

Agreed. Country would have such a better future with that mindset. Sad how rare it is nowadays.

just because there is a 16, 17 or 18 year old with a 2008 or 2009 tacoma that mom and dad bought, doesn't mean they don't deserve it.

For example - i got a 1996 mustang. it was 8 months old with 4000 miles on it. I was 17. I made great grades and had a job. my folks said that if i did those things they would buy me 1 car. i drove a new car till the doors fell off.

it is not a bad thing to get a teen a new car, if they are responsible. it will last them through college / early 20's, until they can trade and get something else. with a tacoma and the amount of miles you can put on them, it could last 10 years with minimal repair costs.

anyway, just another point of view. oh, and i am 31 with an 09. :)

that may fall close to the living beyond your means catagory... depends on if you are living paycheck to paycheck.

Remember that a lot of people in this category probably still live at home. If you live at home work hard in a good job that makes you a lot of money you get to keep most of that money whereas if you don't live at home any more and you spend $1000 a month on rent, utilities, groceries... that's $12,000 a year. Live on your own for 2.5 years and you have spent enough on living expenses to buy yourself a brand new DC 4x4 Taco.
