I've never bought an extended warranty on anything before, but after reading some issues that folks had with their Toyotas (rare but expensive issues) I decided to get one. I bought it from Toyota, when I purchased the truck.

I was not happy to see the list of exclusions, but because of some recent stuff like the fly-by-wire DFI & the "sealed" transmission (both covered 100%) I decided it would be a good deal (if I had bad luck.)

One thing excluded from the extended warranty: the frame!

Of course that's one of the most expensive issues, right? The one for which Toyota scrapped many Tacomas?

They weren't happy when I pointed that out at the dealership: "It's a truck and you won't cover the frame? WTH are you telling me here?":rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Anyhow, I still bought it.

The frame rust was/is a big issue, but Toyota owned up to it, and they had absolutely no obligation to do so. Chances of it actually happening are fairly low. Being that you're in cali however, depending how close to the ocean... it probably wouldn't hurt to spray down the undercarriage every month or so to knock any salt off. If you notice any scratches/exposed metal on the frame that's not coated... clean it, let it dry, and seal it... That's the easiest way to prevent it. It'll happen to any vehicle, metal is metal.

Ah, AZ rocks so much... :D

I agree.Toyota owned up to it and it cost them plenty of $$$.
I have to believe Toyota has made some changes to prevent the same thing from happening.

NO manufacturer covers the frame on an extended warranty. NONE, NOTTA, ZILCH, not a Toyota thing, it's an industry wide thing.

I'm really surprised that the guy selling me the warranty didn't mention (know) that. That issue nearly killed the sale.
