Let say that you have a pet as your Tacoma's best friend (other than all of us of course -best friend-), which one will be. I currently don’t own one but I'm looking for a Dog a male Weimaraner, How about you guys? ...

i don't understand why the hell somebody would shoot a dog...especially a dog that has never done anything wrong and is young...friggin jagoffs...oh well, he survived and now he's being taken care of and gets to ride in a badass truck, life is good after all

I am against cruelty to animals. But i will say this, my girlfriends roommate had two Weimaraners and i would have LOVED to drag them behind my truck if i had the chance. I hated those dogs with every fiber of my being. I hated them more than Texans and Canadians put together. They are EXTREMELY energetic, which is bad for a dog that size. They are also extremely stupid and stubborn, which is a terrible combination. However, they are beautiful dogs. and although its rare, i have seen some that are well behaved. i think the key to Weimaraners is ALOT of discipline, and they will only behave if they have plenty of wide open spaces to run off alot of energy. probably a great farm dog but if you live in an appartment or a house with a small yard i would strongly recomend against them. My ex-gf was in vet school and this was the only breed of dog she strongly disliked. My current gf's dad is a vet and he hates them. definately do your research on them before you buy. Personally i like collie mixes because of their intelligence. I also love lab/hound mixes. a buddy had a black lab/hound mix and no matter how big the dog got or how old, his face kept the soft hound features and big ears so it looked like a puppy its whole life. it was also very smart.

i honestly dont know alot about beagles or have not had much interaction with them. But from what i understand they are very well behaved and fairly intelligent. intelligence is a big factor for me when looking for a dog. But if your interested in beagles i think they're great but you'll want to do some research.

 

Good info, especially about the concerns with full breeds. I would never get a full bred dog, they are expensive and almost always finicky or have some kind of problems. Mutts are much better for the average joe. I'd love to get a collie mix or a lab/hound mix. lab/hound mixes are perfect as far as personality, size, low maintenance (as far as dogs go), smart, active but not overly energetic and very affectionate. i love the one my friend has

 

I have a beagle and love her to death! Here is a short summary that I can provide. They are generally noisy (mine is a mute) and will bay at most anything. Also they are the most effective eating machines ever to be found on the earth. My beagle in one night of sheer devestation went through one 12" chocolate fudge cake, 2 baskets of rolls, and the better part of a Turkey. She was in the dog house for about a month. So needless to say they are really smart dogs. They are also pretty active dogs, so a good walk once or twice a day would be recommended. The final tragic note about beagles is they are prone to seizures, they are generally harmless to the dog but as a owner all you can do is try and comfort them when they come back around (as in don't go near during or you may potentially loose a finger). With their veracious appetite beagles are also prone to obesity so watch what you give them, as they will get fat or eat them selves to death (no joke).

 

I loooooove dogs! Think I've said that before! I donate monthly to the ASPCA, NSAL and to one shelter here in MS.

I'll agree with phantom who said that mutts are great!!! I currently have 3 dogs, but have adopted a total of 5 dogs from animal shelters.

mvega....weimaraners are beautiful! I love those blue eyes! You can get they type of dog you want from anywhere you choose, but I'd like to make a suggestion! Visit an animal shelter in your area! I'll bet you can find a beautiful well-behaved animal, possibly even a Weimaraner! I have seen about three of that breed at shelters in MS. Shelters often end up with purebreds.

Lots of shelters end up putting healthy, sweet dogs to sleep simply because "their time is up." I would love to save every homeless dog in the world if I could! I do like to think that I am working on it!!!

i have not seen weimaraners with blue eyes. the ones i have seen have those really bright gold colored eyes. they are beutiful but i hate that breed. I am also a big fan of huskies (partially because of their blue eyes)

I'd like to get a dog as soon as i live in a place that could have one, i hate when people get big dogs hten confine them to small houses or appartments.

 

I found a Dog shelter here in Texas (Dallas), but is almost at 450 miles from home, and they are full of Weimaraners, I have relatives over there, I need to plan a trip and visit them and I hope to do it soon. Any suggestion on how to approach the Dog Shelter in order to get a Dog?

 

There's a reason I have retrievers: They're some of the most friendly and intelligent dogs out there. Mine are perfect, I just couldn't ask for better dogs.

Having said that, any dog has the ability to be "bad" but it's your job to teach them right. Blaming a dog or any certain breed for bad behavior is like blaming a child. It's up to you to set them straight.

 

Here's my mut, I love him to death, but he doesn't respect my wife's authority which causes problems at times. He is obedient (to me), very smart, and not too big. He is Australian Blue Heeler/Australian Cattle Dog mix.

 

It's ironic, my dog is the kind of dog I want to take places with me, but he get's car sick.

 

So he only rides in the bed then huh?

 

NO, I'd be afraid he'd try to jump out. He rides up front. I just have to cover the center console, as he has hurled in the cupholder and between the console and the passenger seat before. My truck is far from brand new. I have to watch closely and I've stopped and let him out for fresh air and a drink of water.......these are on short (15 mi) trips.
