    Awesome pics!

    Where are those caves?

We go there every few years, last time we watched the sun rise from the summit, absolutely beautiful. Have you ever go out on manzanita lake? there are some great views from there as well.

Nice. We were just scoping out some car camping spots up there a few months ago when we did an awesome dayhike way out near the PCT over there. We don't have time for our fall leaf trip this year, dammit.
Alabama Hills are fun. The whole east side/395 area is awesome from Tahoe to Lone Pine...and beyond.

Thanks! I'd definitely go back to Indian Creek.
I would have to agree with this. Love the more rugged beauty of the Eastern Sierra/White Mountains. Lots of great spots to camp. At either edge of the season; don't forget the Forest Service/BLM campgrounds near Hwy 120 on the Lee Vining side of Yosemite ;)

June/Silver are on the same road.

Ellery Lake and Junction Campground are two that are on 120. Well worth it (I like them).

    gaiters:
I have a pair of Outdoor Research gaiters for snowshoeing and have been happy with them. Similar to . I do apply a fresh coat of waterproofing spray at the start of every year just for a little extra insurance. If you're going to be in deep snow you want the high (just below the knee) style, not the low ones. Check your boots to see if you have a small D ring at the base of the laces, that is for the hook on the gaiters...just helps keep them in place. If you're going to be wearing a lot of layers or have big, bulky boots get the next size up to make sure that they aren't too snug.

    jackets:
Be sure to get something waterproof yet breathable, preferrably with pit zippers. Since you need to stay warm yet avoid sweating the zippers are a must. I went through 4 or 5 jackets last winter before I settled on the REI Taku - its just a shell so you can wear just it for warm days or use it with a base layer for colder days. Its a little pricy but if you can hold out until around xmas time I can almost guarantee it will be on sale. I got mine for under $100 last year about that time.

and if you're hiking in the snow invest in some snowshoes! so much easier that way.

Yeah, I've spent some quality time at Silver Lake (best omelette in the world at Silver Lake Lodge on a frosty morning...), and around the Parker Lake area on the dirt roads at the base of the Mt. Dana area. We haven' ventured up Lee Viing in a long time becaue usually we are poking along in al lth canyons along 395 for fall colors (Convict, McGee, etc.).

Ellery looks tiny! But neat spot right between the crest and canyon. First-come first-serve, or do you need a reservation?

Ever been to Lundy Canyon? Off 120 just NW of Mono Lake before you climb Conway Summit. Awesome spot.

Fall colors are really awesome along the June Lake Loop. I would definitely agree that there are so many places to poke around. I went to Convict last year-missed the color but had a great time. Camped at June Lake and had the place to myself  of course, I froze my ass off

I usually avoid Ellery until the end of the season. It always seems to be full (at $20/night and so close to the park, I can see why).

Never been to Lundy. Have to check that out.

Silver Lake campground one frosty early October morning:

And this is headed up to Laurel Lake just outside of Mammoth. Just a little too early for this grove.

Don't have my several million fall color pix from the last several years at my fingertips right now. Many of the best are on slides, too...
