That is fine for hunting and all but these mags have proven to have reliability issues which is a no go for combat use. Trust me when I say, no one has put more effort into making the 6.8 work in its current form than LWRCI. It was more than just wanting polymer mags to make it work that spawned their decision, it was a definite need that had to be addressed. I will find Darren Melors exact words on the issue tomorrow as it is late tonight. Also as far as I am concerned with ATK and Magpul on board I see the 6.8 reaching its full potential. Its also in my opinion a much better round than .300blk and support any effort anyone is making to get this round into the hands of our troops.

Why dont you guys just go to the AK platform if all you want is a .30 cal round? Rifle is proven, and eastern block countries make the best mags. The price of an AK, mags, and ammo is far below what a 6.8 or 300blk upper and mags and ammo would cost you.

I definitely think my next personal weapon will be my first AK. I've got lots of learning to do in that department. What country rifles are good to start with, stay away from etc? Is converting a saiga a good way to go?

The Troy stuff is light as the New MI stuff. I don't know on the YHM but I believe their website says weights. If course your magpul forearm is gonna be lighter it's poly but the difference isn't gonna be an anchor more like oz. also depends on how long a rail you go with. The moe is sized to your gas block while the freefloated quads can be any length. The Troy alpha rail is very light where you just add in the rail sections where you want them.

    What's your budget?

The Bulgarian AK is a nice way to go, but if you have the bucks, go with an Arsenal AK

I had a Red Jacket AK back before they were movie stars, they make a good conversion, but it costs twice as much now that they are famous.

I'd rather do a lot of the work myself. I mean I do custom work all the time. It's not a budget thing its a wife thing hahaha. Plus I really enjoy working on the stuff alot.

most rails these days are lightweight aluminum, the weight is minimal until you star adding all kinds of stuff on them.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
The only ones that I have seen regular complaints about are the eqyptian maadi AKs. I personally enjoy my Romanian built WASR-10. Haven't had any real issues with it since I bought it. I burned my hand one time bump firing it. But, that isn't an issue with the rifle itself, but the user being dumb and not watching where his hand was.
