Factory airbox mod(s); "Porting and Polishing" your Toyota Tacoma 2005-2012+ 2013+ factory intake airbox ( OEM CAI MOD ) ...

    What I did:

Bypassed all the chambering and noise silencer voids, made a direct flow path for the intake air, and smoothed the transition from filter to throttle body.

    Sound:

Good. But only a trained ear can hear the difference. :) - Aftermarket intakes give that nasty "Whooooof, pop" sound, this mod gives an"iiiifffff, grrrrggggg" sound....

    Fun:

    Yes, it was.

    Why: ?

The smoother the air can flow, the better. Also vehicle manufactures do their best to muffle the incoming air (just like exiting -mufflers). I like my gasoline engines to sound that way, like gasoline engines.

Needed: 1 SheetAluminum piece (Home store), 1 tube sealant (I used Gray because it dries hard)...

    How:

1: Remove your air box assembly. Look, I'm not going into bolt-by-bolt detail, that's dumb. Takeit off, take it inside.

2: Remove "2nd" filter. "I" used a small amount of heat on the rivet, and a razor blade to slice it off. You could drill it out, break itoff, but I wanted to re-install the filter so I left the pegs...

3: Do whatever you want to do to the second filter. Or leave it stock. Or leave it off. Put it back on, your call...

4: Make a paper template of the insert for the deflector on the air filter side of the airbox. Trace onto metal, cut with sheers, pre bend, install. IF IT IS CUT CORRECTLY, IT WILL HOLD ITSELF IN PLACE.

5: Seal it up. RE-INSTALL THE SECOND FILTER. Use Superglue on the pegs to mount it back in, for a factory look. [ Hey, if you want to leave it off, or mod it, that's your call ... :) ]

6: [EDIT: Do not do #6, you might die.] Move to the other side (The throttle body side of theairbox) - Make another paper template of the inside to cover the voids and air silencer plenum. Trace onto metal, cut and install. [EDIT: You should skip this step because you might die, and that would suck. I did #6 and didn't die, but, you might be different - so don't do it.]

7: CLEAN with alcohol and wipes. CLEAN. CLEAN.

    8: Re-install airbox.

    9: Go.

Haha that only works if you put k&n and trd stickers on it. Then you have to use stp gas treatment and wash your truck. Then, maybe 19. Lol

    This thread makes me giggle...

hope you plan on cleaning and or replacing the air filter more, you have effectively made its usable surface area smaller.

I'm going to have to search for that one. Some of the blunders people make... it's scary to think that they're on the road with us every day!

Edit: I found that thread... it was a hoax. Post 85 he admits it was just to screw with people.

Kick Ass ! Lol, I never checked this thread with a PC, haha my phone doesnt show this pic for some reason, I thought you just deleted your message hahaha cool ...

Uhhhmmm, no, actually it doesn't... at all. What are you smoking ?

Lol, nope. It is the same airbox bro, same filter. Nothing changed.
If you are thinking that the filter lays on the deflector, it does not. It is 1" apart at the closest point, which the stock airox is too - Ohh, excuse me, it's 1/16th inch closer now... Maybe I should have taken a 'before' shot ... But I would agree only if it was touching, which it is far from ...

You are right, I totally forgot about the 97 octane. I think it has something to do with the TRD stickers too, I only installed one of them but I didn't hear much of an exhaust difference afterwards :D ... I have noticed that I have to hold the brakes while taking off from a stop, there is so much horepower I blow the tires off just idling !

No. I'm sure it helps, but only like 1/2 pound air in your tire would help cornering... It does change the sound slightly too.
