I suspect you're trying to be funny, but that is actually an easy one. I would use a pull-push cable since it would be a whole lot simpler than running a lever relay system.

However, electric is probably the best way to operate an ADD. Yours bummed out, just bad luck. Basically, it is a lot easier to seal the electric unit. Relays and cables are more prone to problems with ice when located down under the front like the ADD.

i dont think he was joking. its a valid issue once they burn out although i dont hear a lot of them burning out. when they do its not cheap like $300 or some god awful cost...

ok, now this is just trolling since the ADD actuator is a problem on these trucks and no one makes a cable system.

these problems all over TW and other toyota forums. Plus, two people in the same area with a lot of snow/ice/east coast in general have had their's go out pretty much at the same time

I wouldn't expect anyone to want to invest in something that doesn't benefit them. Junk is a harsh word, and I'm sure you agree that if this worked exactly as I claim, it wouldn't be junk -- you would not be investing in junk. However, it also wouldn't solve a problem that couldn't be deal with differently. In other words, either way it won't do you any good since you can achieve the same thing differently.

Nor would I pay anything to provide physical proof of this to the internet. Unlike some, I'm NOT SELLING ANYTHING. I don't give two flying fu**s if you believe me or not, because even if I did prove something, doing so doesn't benefit me.

    So here we are.
It isn't worth anything to you to prove me either right or wrong, and it isn't worth anything to me to prove myself right.

Now if somebody offered to pay me some substantial amount of money to provide proof of concept or final design specifications, my position might change, because then there actually would be something in it for me. All you've offered me is the chance to break even, assuming that you are trust worthy, otherwise an expense with no actual reward. Just what AM I going to do with a spare transfer case?

In that case, the best approach to the ADD might be to upgrade it to higher quality components rather than replace it with levers and cables.

It would be interesting to see what the point of failure is on them, maybe they could be disassembled and repaired or improved without an overly substantial redesign.

See my previous reply. Failures don't mean that it is the wrong approach, just that something about it is flawed in execution.

One vehicle I had used air pressure to operate the ADD. The electric air pump was under the front bumper at the front of the car, right where lots of salt and water would hit. It got flaky and eventually failed, so I removed it, took it apart, cleaned it out, replaced all the wires, sealed it up really well, and reinstalled it under the hood behind the battery where it was far less subject to salt spray. It never gave me another problem for 5 years until I sold the car.

So why even say anything? UMAD? Someone is offering you a free Tcase to prove everyone wrong. If you manufacture this mock up and works as stated you could potentially have serious money at your fingertips, no?

because 1 of 2 things will happen:

    1) won't work
    2) if it does it will be so cost prohibitive to market with the alternatives out there it will be a waste of time which i think he has realized

either way pitching theory on re-inventing a t-case is useless and should stop. sure anything is possible with time and money - but sometimes you have to ask your self why? and is it worth it?

In this case the answer is no. so he needs to either do it or let it go... the ADD issue or getting manual hubs, that's of interest to a lot of people...

Actually, no. I wouldn't have any significant money at my fingertips. The problem is that (1) would be in competition with Wyatt, who offers a product that achieves the same objectives, (2) the market for this modification is EXTREMELY small, (3) I'm not in the business of manufacturing offroad equipment, in fact, I'm not in any kind of manufacturing business at all. All of my component fabrication is for personal hobby only. (4) Where would I come up with that "free" transfer case? The deal offered was that he would buy the modified case back from me, hence, I do not get to keep it unless it is trashed, or would get saddled with it if he didn't hold up his end.

I speak about this subject because it is fun to consider alternatives to what there is right now. Because I appreciate an intelligent discussion, for those who are engaging in it from an intellectual point of view. Mad? No, of course not.

no you keep it if it works and i pay you back. im not asking for a free manual tacoma t-case back for your refund. you only dont get your money back if you dont do it or it fails.

Regarding (2), I never once suggested that it would be cost effective. I only suggested that it would be POSSIBLE. I don't, however, believe that it would cost nearly as much as people are suggesting.

And thank you, for finally agreeing that yes, it is indeed possible.

the key to my statement - time and money. I think a lot of things are "possible" if you have an unlimited supply of both. but without it, its not possible... make sense?
