Hah, I just mentioned to my friend today that I wanted D-rings at the front of the bed, and I come on here to see this thread at the top!

    Great Write up!!
Now that we have kayaks on order, we need some extra floor tie-downs. Saw this thread and thought..... 4 extra tie-downs would be GREAT. Ordered a set of 5 for $5 online and a T55 torx. Hope to have this done this week.

This was a great idea! I ordered D-Rings from ArmySurplusWarehouse.com. Had to bore them out a little in order to get the bed bolt to fit through. No big deal; just thought I'd mention it in case anyone orders from there. $1/ring and they're rugged.

I've had them in the bed for a couple weeks and have used them on countless occasions. Thanks for posting (Love TW!)!

Just curious why unbolt the bed bolt? The Tacoma oem rings bolt into the side of the bed with a large backing plate, they seem like they have the same strength as the rear tie downs?

You have to unbolt the bed bolts to add additional d-rings on the floor.

The d-rings on the bedsides aren't always ideal for certain situations.

Right now, I have 6 d-rings in the floor and the 4 D-rings on the bedside that came with the truck.

    More options for tying cargo/safely.

Neubs, what's the anti-seize for? Has anyone else used it?

I found this thread and immediately called my local Dodge dealer and picked up 4 very heavy duty D rings for $13!

I used the anti-seize on my bed bolts and the purpose was to insulate against corrosion and help prevent rust. With enough time time bolts could rust and fuse together with the bolt holes. I have two of the Dodge D-rings and they are outstanding. However, when they get torqued down the bolts will slightly crush the metal where the d-ring pivots from. See the last picture below to see what I am talking about. It made one of my d-rings difficult to articulate by hand but it works nonetheless.

Here is what my bed bolts looked like after 3 years in southern California (a very dry climate with 9" of rain a year).

I've been wondering how well jamming a nylon washer between the retainer flats would work. It should make them easier to work the ring, but might also make them able to rattle. Haven't tried it yet, but may be something to think about.

x2 I had similar thoughts as well. If I ever have a reason to take the bolt back out I may give that a try although mine is now slightly deformed so I'm not so sure if it's worth the effort.

You could just put a small washer between the head of the bolt and the link to raise it up.

Yes, That's good advice for sure. Anyone doing the Dodge rings mod should probably do so. I'd give it a shot if I need something to do one day.

What setting on the torque wrench to reinstall bed bolts. I have two oem d rings to istall tomorrow. Wish I'd have known about the army surplus earlier. This has been an interesting thread. Apprecite the info on torque wrench setting. Thanks Guy's.

Fox 2.0 coilovers, yellow fogs, Peltyfry bed light bar with Rigid Duallys.
Did this tonight using six OEM Toyota rings. Only took me about an hour. Only problem I had was removing the bolts from the bed. My ratchet was about 12 inches! Next time ill grab a pipe for some leverage. Anyway, great mod for hauling dirt bikes and the kayak.

I installed my 4 Dodge D Rings this past weekend. I found some stainless steel lock washers to elevated the bolt head so it wouldn't pinch the D Ring. However, once I put one in, I didn't like that it projected about 3/16 or so above the bed rails. So, I removed the lock washer. To my surprise, my bolt heads didn't pinch the D Rings. I've got a 2013 Taco so I wonder if the bolt heads are smaller?

Yet another mod that I've been sittin on. Just gonna do the front 2 to go with the rear 2 already there. Not cuttin the bedmat either, it can just curl up whenever actually using the drings up front. Thanks for the bump on the thread so it jumped back up in the subbed thread list..............

Remember if you use anti-seize on the threads your torque settings should be lower because of the lower friction the anti-seize provides.
