Air Conditioner!

I haven't read much on this site about the Tacoma's A/C, but let me just say that when the temperature hits 90 and the humidity is 90+, my A/C kicks cold ass down the street! I love this A/C, I think it must be the most efficient I have had in any vehicle I have owned.

Yeah...I am amazed every time I turn mine on and it goes like instant cold...and then I just sit there and enjoy it!!

That's every car tho...and I usually shoot it about 5 mins when I get in the truck cause it's humid and then I kill it and open the windas...

 

Does it smell funny when you turn it off? MIne has a wierd smell to it when I run it then turn it off.

 

Spray Lysol Disinfectant in the outside air inlet at the base of the windshield. Moisture in the air box can create mold...it's no big deal, all cars do it. The Lysol will kill it....

 

Haven't noticed any funkiness- but Psters idea sounds good as any.

 

Some vehicles will never experience it. I think it has a lot to do with whether you run the A/C all the time in Recirculate Mode. I do, and every couple years I get some musty/moldy smell. The Lysol does a great job, it's cheap, and works fast. Just make sure you spray it down into the air inlet.

 

Come to Phoenix, leave your car in the sun all day then see how the a/c stacks up! The Taco's a/c is good, but it takes a fair few mins on full and recirc to drop the temp down in those extremes.

 

Only Gila lizards live in Phoenix. They like it hot. Hey, if you live in a desert, it's hot. But then it's DRY HEAT. Come to NC and get some Southern 98% humidity! Air Conditioners really only work if there is humidity in the air. They are de-humidifiers.

 

What I do to avoid the smell is turn off the AC a few minutes before your destination and run the fan full blast. This helps dry out the condensation that forms in the duct work. The condensation is usually what causes the smell.

 

Amen to that! I'm near Columbia, SC... A.K.A "The Armpit of the South". If you take a deep breath in August, you'll drown. I'll take dry heat over this sweltering place any day. That's one good thing about a reg. cab though... not much area to cool down. Mine gets cold QUICK.

 

You do roll the windows down first to let the hotter interior air out, when you first start the truck & a/c?

 

Yes. I try to leave the windows open anyway when not in the car, and leave the windows open for the first few mins to ge the temp down to the outside temp.

 

Oh. I just noticed you live in one of the hottest place on earth. I guess there isn't any auto a/c that is going to cool off instantly in the summer there.

 

I've only had my Taco for a couple of weeks, so I've only used the air twice. And you're right....you can hang meat in there!

 

When I took my drivers test My AC was one notch above LO and and all the way cold.


My palms got sweaty and by the time i was finished with the test my fingers turned a pale color and were SUPER cold.

After I got my license I noticed that the vents were set right at my hands.

But yeah the AC works awesome. So does the Heater

 

I have an 02 V6 Tacoma. Today, all of a sudden, no cold air; fuses ok. Compressor doesn't seem to engage; any suggestions? Thanks

 

My A/C is only OK, nothing like my wifes honda think I will take it in before warranty is up
