Blech. Any other pics? Is this for real or a concept? I used to love subies, had a 2004 forester XT that was a blast. I like the older styling and have been turned off by the direction they've been going since 07 or so. The hatchback STI is the last thing I really liked by them.

I agree that I haven't been a fan of the latest subies. But I saw one of these in person the other day and it was pretty sharp.

I think it's an unnecessary crossover. If you want a compact car, get the regular Impreza. If you want a lifted Impreza, just buy a Forester.

However, there is apparently a group of people that lift Imprezas, add skid plates, install AT tires, etc., so an XV saves some work.

I kind of like it personally. I do however think it needs a more powerful engine in it, a 148HP 4cyl isn't enough IMO.

I personally really like the XV Crosstrek. Everyone says bad things right off but each vehicle has a very specific function. This has good ol Subaru AWD, get's almost as amazing MPG as the Impreza, sits as high as the Outback and Forester for ground clearance and IMO would be a perfect DD for me. If I ever decided to get a car this would be pretty much it. Fits all of my needs, may not fit others

The Forester IS basically a lifted GH Impreza - same engine, same suspension (but longer parts), same interior. Many parts are interchangeable. In fact, the cheapest way to lift an Impreza 2" is to buy aftermarket Forester struts (e.g. Monroe).

I know, a lot of people are asking if subaru is being their own competition with this one. Point it I like it, it fits me perfect, it has less space than the forester but gets better mpg with the new cvt that they starting putting in the 2012+. A lot of people would prefer more power and space, I personally think the XV fits my bill perfectly and IF I ever get another vehicle, when I'm married or something, I would keep this as a very serious contender.

I can definitly see how most people would rather have more space and more power though, I just don't need those things in a fun little snow DD

I would consider as a DD.

I got really excited and then noticed there's no Turbo engine. What the fuck am I going to do with 148hp?

Here I was having visions of building a sick offroad crossover rally utility vehicle only to have them dashed by a shit engine...

CVT transmission? Oh damn......it just keeps getting worse!!!

Edit: You can actually get a 5speed manual in the base model...not in the limited model though.

I saw a commercial for this last night and I really like the idea of one. I want to get behind the wheel of one and see how it goes. Consumer Reports says it's basically a lifted Impreza Sport.

I'll be driving the Tacoma for several years to come, but I think my next vehicle will be something like this.

Some of the pictures up there don't look like what I've seen recently...

Subaru is stuck having to meet CAFE requirements without hybrids or diesels, so they have to reduce power to improve fuel economy.

The Forester 2.5XT is basically a WRX with a suspension lift and taller greenhouse.

I HAD a 2012 Impreza sedan....the 148hp 2.0L is pretty terrible,Which is why I traded mine in.They sleeved a 2.5L down to make it a 2.0 for fuel economy .The XV is basically a lifted version of the Impreza wagon .Honestly I regret not trying the CVT ,the 5 speed wasn't fun.Throws were mac truck like ,the clutch pedal had zero feeling .I cant Imagine why they would change the transmissions so have fun with that......I had my Impreza for a whole 8 months it got awesome gas but wasn't fun to drive unless you beat on it and with a brand new car I'm not interested in that.

    I giveth not a fuck....not one.

I've always dreamed of an car like vehicle that I could buy from the factory as a daily driver and slink away on weekends to go rally or crawl with.

I'm kidding but sort of not. I really feel like that's the only vehicle market that has yet to happen. The car (not SUV or truck) off road machine. Would it be a good idea? Nope. But it would be cool as hell!

^I think he wants a lifted WRX... which is doable for less than $700 with Forester struts all-around and adjustable trailing arms for the rear.
