He needs to drive it to get data on the back logs on the computer. Like 50 or more miles. Also have someone follow him due to no tags..

Edit. Well that's what I got from Leo.

Theres nothing anyone can do really, it already passed emissions, as a matter of fact the tech said it passed almost immediately, fastest he;s ever seen. its just sometimes when repairs take place (in my case the transmission & battery) the onboard gets amnesia & goes to a default setting which in no way is up to Ca. standards (fuckin BS !) so some miles have to be put on it so it re sets itself, same thing happened with my ranger a few years ago, it took 3 or 4 days to do it...

I'm on the road right now. I don't have the gas to help Doug tonight.

I had this happen on my suburban. So the night it happened I went to tj with my dad and it passed the next day. Doug needs to go like 50 miles

Well if the local PD didn't use plate scanners I'd just borrow the tag off the hyundai & cruise, but just talked to chris & he suggested putting on stands & let it run for awhile, i think it may be worth a try anyway..

$600 fuckin' dollars it cost me yesterday at DMV.... as far as i'm concerned its legal & legit

Doug maybe you can get the temp tag. Just call and ask if you can get one and explain that you need to put miles on the truck so the ECM can get data the data it needs since you haven't put miles on it since getting your new battery

It should take about 50-80 miles for the ECM to be ready

So Doug the computer needs to regain its memory and the trucks "drive cycle"? If so it's pretty easy to do I do it in my truck everytime I take the battery off and it runs like shit ie; rough idle ect. Ive looked online and this has worked for me.

Most OBD II ("On-Board Diagnostics II") diagnostic monitors will run at some time during normal operation of the vehicle.
However, to satisy all of the different Trip enable criteria and run all of the OBD II diagnostic monitors, the vehicle must be driven under a variety of conditions. The following drive cycle will (theoretically) allow all monitors to run on (??) vehicle. (Note: Drive cycle specifics vary by vehicle!)
Ensure that the fuel tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full.
Start cold (below 86°F /30°C) and warm up until engine coolant temperature is at least 160° F (typically requires at least one minute; up to 3 minutes).
Accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for five minutes.
Decelerate without using the brake (coast down) to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.
Restart and accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for two minutes.
Decelerate with using the brake [or the clutch!] by coasting down to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.
