So my daughter shoved one of those toy easter eggs down the bath tub drain last night. Tried coat hangers and drain snakes with no luck. No idea how to get it out short of tearing out the tub. Any suggestions?

Depending on how far down it gets, once it gets into the larger diameter piping, it might just flush down the pipes. The tub should have 1-1/2" pipe until it Y's into the main stack. Then it should have at least 3, possibly 4" pipe which would be plenty large enough to carry the toy out to the street.

If you have city sewer, it might not be an issue but if you're concerned and want to make sure it gets flushed out, you'd have to pull the clean out, put a 5 gallon bucket under it and flush it down til you see it come out.

That stinks. How far down is it and is the drain plugged? Any chance you can break it to pieces so it will continue to flow?

I was hoping for it to hit the larger piping too, but I'm not sure how far until the pipe gets larger. Because all the piping is in the wall/floor, I can't get to it.

I can put the drain snake in almost a foot before it stops, but I can't seem to push it any further without bending up the snake. I've considered corrosive stuff, since I have old metal piping.

Put a shop vac on the end of the pipe and seal it good. Should be able to suck that up. Have you tried heating the end of the snake up to melt through the egg? then hook it.

No shop vac, but heating up the snake sounds like an idea. There's still a little water I have to wait to drain, very very slowly....

i would try corrosive stuff thin Easter egg it will be dissolved in 10 mins or so. Sounds like my GF when she pushed the hair catch down the drain. I just poured some solution down the drain and it was goneZO.

Also whats a good fix for a flange leak on my exhaust. The bolts are far beyond rusted just need something to stop it from leaking. Temporary cuz im getting a P0420 from it?

pop those boltheads off put a new factory seal in it. Coated with exhaust grade gasket RTV. Then put new bolts in. Its the only thing that really works. I tried pumping RTV didnt work. If you dont fix it quickly u will gunk up your sensors or get them wet like i did:eek:. I fucked up my Cat with mud and had to clean it then it didn't work. And now i have the URD o2 simulator because im not spending that much.

The heat idea won't work unless you drain the trap since there will always be water in the trap unless you wait for that to completely dry out. I'm assuming the trap is not easily accessible though because if you can get to the trap, I'd say just unscrew it and fish it out.

Worse than I though, when I use the bathroom sink, it now drains into the tub.

Do you have access to any of the piping, as in, can you remove the trap from behind the tub? That would be beneficial because you'd then have a straight shot at the egg so you might be able to smash it up or force it down the pipe.

The chemical method might not work and I would only try it as a last resort at this point since the object is past the trap (the trap is typically where items get lodged and, because it's a low point, the object gets emersed in the chemicals, allowing them to dissolve. Since you're past that point, I don't think the pastic will be in contact with the chemical long enough to really do you any good. Plus, you don't know what kind of fumes you'll get from trying to melt plastic in your pipes).

Also, do you have one of those Home Depot Roto-Rooter things? They're kind of cheesy but they do work sometimes.

Another option would be heat on the pipe, or flush very hot, boiling water down the pipes. The boiling water should make the egg maliable enough to where the sewer snake could jam it down the pipe.

I do have some access to the piping. Removed a wall panel, and found someone has been at the piping before. Unfortunately I have to head to work soon, so I'm gonna have to pick this up tomorrow. My girlfriend is pretty handy around the house, so maybe she'll have some luck while I'm gone.

Since it's pushed past the trap, my guess would be the next clean out would be the main clean out on the sewer stack.

If the sink is backfillin the tub I would go from the sink. Remove the under sink trap and buy a portable snake for your drill they come with differant ends. I would use the "cutting" one and a portable drill motor to break it up

It's grounds for failing in Rhode Island but not in Massachusetts. ;)
